Union, N.J. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Lacrosse team closed out the Skyline Conference schedule on Saturday afternoon with an 18-5 road loss at Kean.
Adrian Go (Fairlawn, N.J.) tallied a pair of points and freshman
Ben Gashi (Bronx, N.Y.) made 12 saves after halftime for the Dolphins.
Mount Saint Vincent never led in the contest and found itself trailing 7-1 after the first 15 minutes of play on Saturday. Kean scored three times in the first five minutes, including goals from Richard Cheifitz and Brad Mills just 24 seconds apart, to open an early 3-0 lead.
After falling behind 7-0 in the opening stanza
Pat McEnaney (New York, N.Y.) got the Dolphins on the board with his ninth goal of the season with eight seconds left in the first period.
McEnaney's marker was the only goal for the Dolphins before halftime, as Kean outscored the Mount 4-0 in the second frame to carry a commanding 11-1 lead into the intermission. John Marcelli scored his fourth goal of the half to open the second period scoring as Kean outshot the Mount 29-8 in the first half.
The Dolphins scored three of their five goals in the game in the third quarter on Saturday with Go, Geermaine Ngaba (Bronx, N.Y.) and
Josh James (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scoring consecutive goals just under four minutes apart to being the Dolphins to within 14-4. Ngaba's goal came with the man advantage for the Mount.
John Petito (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored his team leading 24
th goal of the season with just under six minutes to play in the fourth off a feed from
Connor McBride (Monroe, N.Y.) to close out the scoring in the game for Mount Saint Vincent.
Go was the only player for the Mount with multiple points in the game and McBride and
Chris Summo (Bronx, N.Y.) added assists for the Dolphins.
Derek Wilson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won eight face-offs for the Dolphins and led the team with five groundballs.
Cheifitz and Marcelli each finished with five points for Kean with Cheifitz scoring three times and assisting on two other goals and Macelli scoring four goals and adding an assist. Mills tallied three goals for the Cougars and picked up four groundballs.
Kyle Kalibat (Oceanside, N.Y.) made the start in the cage for Mount Saint Vincent and made nine stops and picked up four groundballs. Gashi came on to play the second 30 minutes for the Dolphins, making a career-high 12 stops and scooping two groundballs.
Overall no Saturday, Kean held the edge in shots 60-27, shots on goal 39-11, groundballs 52-29 and face-offs 18-8. Scott Buchanan led the Cougars with eight face-off wins and six groundballs.
Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 5-10 overall on the season and to 1-5 in league play. The Dolphins will close out the 2013 season on Sunday night when they play host to Bryn Athyn. Face-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
