Yonkers, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Lacrosse team scored a 12-4 win over Bryn Athyn on Sunday night to close out the 2013 season. The Dolphins honored seniors
Mike Gibbons (Floral Park, N.Y.),
Bryan Stein (Larchmont, N.Y.) and
Miller Celestin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) at halftime of the contest for their contributions to the program over the last four years.
After playing an even first quarter on Sunday, the Dolphins went on to outscore the Lions 11-3 over the final 45 minutes. In the second quarter, the Mount scored four of the five goals to take a 5-2 lead into halftime. Celestin,
Mike McEnaney (New York, N.Y.),
Adrian Go (Fairlawn, N.J.) and
Matt Desimone (Congers, N.Y.) scored for the Dolphins.
The Mount went on to the put the game away in the third quarter when they outscored Bryn Athyn 5-0. Celestin scored his second goal of the game to open the scoring in the period and
John Petito (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored twice in the final 2:08 of the stanza to push the Dolphins in front 10-2.
Terrence Johnson would get the Lions' first goal since he scored with 5:48 left before halftime early in the fourth quarter, but goals from Go and Desimone secured the season finale for the Dolphins.
Mount Saint Vincent had four players with multiple goals in the game and was paced by three goals each from Go and Desimone. Go continued his strong late season play with five points after adding a pair of assists.
Celestin and Petito each scored a pair of goals for the Dolphins on Sunday with Petito and Stein each collecting five groundballs. Gibbons picked up an assist for the Mount and caused a pair of turnovers.
Kyle Kalibat (Oceanside, N.Y.) earned the win between the pipes for Mount Saint Vincent after stopping eight Bryn Athyn shots. He also recorded an assist and picked up a groundball.
Ben Gashi (Bronx, N.Y.) came on to make four saves in just over 16 minutes of work on Sunday.
For the game, Mount Saint Vincent held the edge in shots 47-35, shots on goals 24-16, groundballs 44-34 and face-off wins 12-7.
Derek Wilson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won all 12 draws for the Dolphins and added six groundballs.
With Sunday's victory, Mount Saint Vincent's season ends at 6-10 overall.
