New York, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Softball team had its four game winning streak stopped on Friday afternoon with 1-0 and 3-2 losses on the road at Baruch. Freshman
Kathryn Dalton (Northampton, Pa.) drove in a run and struck out six in the circle for the Dolphins in game two.
Mount Saint Vincent was one hit in the opener on Friday, with
Leeann Cerbone (Bronx, N.Y.) collecting the lone hit with a single in the top of the fifth inning. Cerbone was one of only three base runners for the Dolphins in the contest.
Baruch got on the board and scored the only run of the game in the fourth inning. After Nicole Flint led off the frame with a walk and advanced when Courtney White reached on an error, Flint scored on a sacrifice fly from Olivia Auman.
Baruch was held to only two hits in the game with Chelsea DeGuzman going 2-for-3 in the opener. Flint scored the only run of the game with Auman's sacrifice fly accounting for the only RBI.
Kathleen Davis (Beacon, N.Y.) took the hard luck loss for the Dolphins in game one and fell to 3-9 on the season. She allowed one unearned run on two hits and struck out four batters. Flint picked up the win for Baruch and struck out 11 Mount Saint Vincent hitters.
The Dolphins dropped a second heartbreaker on Friday when Baruch erased a 2-0 deficit with a three run seventh inning to sneak away with the win. The Bearcats tallied three unearned runs in the inning.
Mount Saint Vincent jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the sixth inning with its first runs of the day.
Joann Guerra (Bronx, N.Y.) singled and then scored after
Danielle Maffei (Valhalla, N.Y.) singled and advanced to third on an error by the right fielder. Maffei later scored on a Dalton single to push the Mount in front 2-0.
The Dolphins' two run advantage would hold until Baruch got two hits and took advantage of a pair of Mount Saint Vincent errors in the seventh to complete the sweep. With two outs and no one on base Maria Vlahopoulos walked and advanced to second on a Megan Ruiz single.
With two on and two outs Vlahopoulos and Ruiz scored on an error to tie the score and then DeGuzman came home with the game winning run on a single off the bat of Toniann Donde.
Davis, Guerra and Maffei each finished game two with two hits with Guerra and Maffei scoring runs. Cerbone and Dalton added the other hits for Mount Saint Vincent with Dalton posting the only RBI.
Donde closed out the game two win 2-for-4 with an RBI and Ruiz went 2-for-4 with a run scored. White also recorded a pair of hits in the game for the Bearcats.
Dalton took the loss for Mount Saint Vincent in game two and dropped to 6-12 on the season. She did not allow an earned run in the game and struck out six Baruch hitters. Auman earned the win for the Bearcats and fanned three.
Friday's sweep drops Mount Saint Vincent to 9-21 overall on the season. The Dolphins will hit the field again on Saturday when they travel to Sage. First pitch with the Gators is set for 12:00 p.m.
