Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Softball team picked up a pair of non-conference wins on Tuesday, downing John Jay 2-0 and 9-7. Sophomore Kathleen Davis (Beacon, N.Y.) picked up the victory in game one, striking out 15.

Davis allowed six singles in the opener on Tuesday and walked just one. She struck out the side in the first inning and the first four outs of the game were recorded via the strikeout. She moved to 2-8 on the season with the win and now has fanned 99 hitters in 65 innings pitched.

The eventual winning run in game one came in the third inning when Danielle Maffei (Valhalla, N.Y.) singled to first base with two outs. Casey Cuccio (Medford, N.Y.) led off the frame with a single and advanced into scoring position on a passed ball.

Mount Saint Vincent added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth after stringing together two hits and taking advantage of an error. Joann Guerra (Bronx, N.Y.) and Maffei singled in the inning, with Geurra crossing after Allison Regan (Carmel, N.Y.) reached on a two out error.

Maffei was the only Mount Saint Vincent player with more then one hit in the game after going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Davis and Guerra each went 1-for-3 for the Dolphins and Cuccio finished up 1-for-2 with a run scored.

After the game one pitching duel, the two teams came back in the second game of the day and combined for 16 runs and 21 hits. The Bloodhounds scored five runs in their first two at-bats, getting all three second inning runs on home runs from Leidy Lopera and Kalyssa Daley.

Trailing 5-0, Mount Saint Vincent went on to score three runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. The Dolphins got on the board in the third when Guerra doubled home Davis and Ashley Winn (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and then later scored on an error to bring the Mount to within 5-3.

Mount Saint Vincent would pull in front 6-5 in the fourth inning with three more runs. Leeann Cerbone (Bronx, N.Y.) drove in a pair of runs with a home run to left field and Joanna Makayan (Maspeth, N.Y.) scored an unearned run to give the Mount its first lead of the game.

Kaylee Fry would move John Jay back in front in the top half of the fifth when she delivered a two-run home run to center field. The lead would be short lived as the Dolphins responded with three more runs in the home half of the inning to move in front for good.

Cerbone was in the middle of the fifth inning rally for the Mount with a run scoring single and Winn pushed home two more runs with a single through the left side to close out the scoring.

Four Mount Saint Vincent players finished game two with a pair of hits, including Cerbone who also drove in three runs and scored twice. Guerra finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI and Danielle Kirrane (Bronx, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 with two runs. Winn also finished up with two hits and two RBI.

Kathryn Dalton (Northampton, Pa.) moved to 5-11 after working her 11th complete game of the season. She allowed six earned runs on eight hits, while striking out four. Dalton also went 1-for-4 at the plate with a run scored.

Tuesday's sweep pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 7-19 overall on the season. The Dolphins will look to build on Tuesday's momentum when they host non-conference foe Lehman on Thursday. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m.
