Kyle Kalibat (Oceanside, N.Y.) made 22 saves and
Dan Gallante (Bethpage, N.Y.) scored in the final 30 seconds to send Mount Saint Vincent to a 9-8 win over Maritime on Thursday, the program's first ever win against the Privateers.
The game was tightly contested throughout with the largest lead for either side being two goals. Maritime took a quick two goal advantage on back-to-back goals from Nick Schneider inside the first six minutes of play.
Mike McEnaney (New York, N.Y.) pulled the Dolphins even in the game with consecutive goals in the final 5:05 of the opening period. Kalibat kept the Dolphins in the game throughout the first quarter with nine big stops in goal.
The second quarter on Thursday was the only period not played even in the game. The Dolphins scored two of the three goals, with Kalibat coming on to tally with the man advantage and Geermaine Ngaba (Bronx, N.Y.) giving the Mount it first lead of the game with 55 seconds left before halftime.
Maritime and Mount Saint Vincent would split six goals in the third quarter. The Dolphins held a two goal advantage twice in the period, before Maritime got a tally from Matthew Messina with two seconds left to get back to within 7-6.
Adrian Go pushed Mount Saint Vincent back in front 8-7 with 4:27 left in regulation, but Schneider brought Maritime even again with 1:47 left in regulation. The game would remain tied at 8-8 until Gallante tallied an unassisted goal with 28 seconds left to push the Mount in front for good.
McEnaney and Go each scored twice in the game, with McEnaney assisting on two other goals to close out a four point night.
John Petito (Staten Island, N.Y.) and
Frank Maddaloni (Bronx, N.Y.) each picked up four groundballs in the game.
Kalibat made nine stops in the first and five each in the second and third quarters to secure the win for the Dolphins. His total save output is two shy of the program record set by Mike Nuzzi in 2010. Kalibat also added a goal and picked up four groundballs in the game.
Mike Johnson joined Schneider with three points in the game for Maritime with two goals and an assist. Messina added two goals for the Privateers, with Matt Hayes and Dylan Larmony picking up seven groundballs each.
Maritime finished the night with the advantage in every category but the final score. The Privateers held in the edge in shots 50-31, groundballs 40-27 and face-offs 14-6. Hayes led Maritime by going 14-for-18 in face-offs.
Thursday's win snaps a four game losing streak and moves Mount Saint Vincent to 5-7 overall and to 1-2 in league play. The Dolphins will look to even its league record on Saturday when it hosts Farmingdale St. Face-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
