Bronx, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team was dropped on Wednesday night at Lehman by a score of 10-8.
Steven Maio (Thornwood, N.Y.) led the Dolphins' offense with three hits and three RBI.
The Dolphins pulled in front early on Wednesday, plating four runs in their first two at-bats. After
Chris Sideli (Brooklyn, N.Y.) ripped a double in the first, he was later pushed home on a
Josh Sharpe (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) groundout to give the Mount an early 1-0 lead.
Mount Saint Vincent extended its lead to 4-0 in the second with three more runs and added a single run in the fourth and two more in the seventh to pull in front 7-2. Maio doubled home
Leutrim 'Tim' Hoxha (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and
Tyler Rieth (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) in the second and then later scored on a wild pitch.
Hoxha connected on his first home run in the fourth for the Mount and
Jason Rivera (Bronx, N.Y.) drove in Sharpe with a double in the seventh to extend the Mount Saint Vincent lead to five runs.
Leading 7-2 in the seventh, the Mount allowed Lehman to score six times in the seventh and two more times in the eighth to sneak away with the victory. The Lightning took advantage of three Mount Saint Vincent errors in the big seventh inning and strung together three hits. Waldo Acosta delivered a two-run home run in the eighth to add on to the Lightning lead.
The Dolphins would get a run on the board in the ninth and would have the tying run at the plate but could not get the game even. Maio singled home Rivera for the Mount to cut the deficit to the final 10-8 decision.
Maio finished 3-for-4 in the game with three RBI and is now hitting .455 on the season with five runs batted in. Rivera went 2-for-4 with an RBI and joined Hoxha with two runs scored.
Acosta and Michael Santana each went 3-for-5 with two runs scored for the Lightning in the game. Acosta drove in three runs on the night for Lehman.
Ryan Schlichter (Southold, N.Y.) worked 4.0 solid innings for the Dolphins in his first start of the season. He allowed one run on three hits and struck out four Lehman hitters. Aneudi Garcia picked up the win for the Lightning with 4.0 innings of relief work.
