Baseball Has Losing Streak Extended At Staten Island

Staten Island, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team remained winless on the season following 7-5 and 15-5 losses on the road at Staten Island on Tuesday. Junior Josh Sharpe (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) recorded two hits and drove in two runs in game one.
 
The Mount would fall behind 2-0 in the first inning after Staten Island pushed across runs on RBI singles from Chris Ramanaukas and Robert Bernanrdo.
 
The Dolphins would get to within a run in the top of the second inning after Kevin Coogan (Bronx, N.Y.) walked and stole second. Coogan was forced home on a run scoring single through the middle from Keith Schroeher (Riverhead, N.Y.) to get the Mount back to within 2-1.
 
Staten Island would get the run back in the home half of the inning to take a 3-1 lead, but the Mount quickly got back to within 3-2 when Chris Sideli (Brooklyn, N.Y.) singled home Jason Rivera (Bronx, N.Y.) in the third.
 
Trailing by a run, Mount Saint Vincent would take its first lead of the game with two runs in the fourth inning. Joseph Senisi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was hit with a pitch to lead off the inning and later advanced when Shroeher reached on an error.
 
With two aboard and one out, Sharpe singled to right center field to push across two runs and pull Mount Saint Vincent in front 4-3.
 
The Dolphins would extend their lead in the top of the sixth when Mike Esposito (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) drove Sharpe home with a groundout and give the team a two run advantage.
 
Leading 5-3, the Dolphins saw Staten Island plate four runs on two hits in the home half of the sixth to steal the win. After getting the bases loaded with three walks, Ramanaukas cleaned the bases with a double and was later chased home on a William DiFede base hit to close out the scoring in the game.
 
Ramanaukas closed the game 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBI for Staten Island and Bryan Moreno crossed with two runs scored. For the game Staten Island outhit the Mount 7-5.
 
Sharpe and Sideli each picked up two hits in game one for the Dolphins, with Sharpe adding a run and a pair of RBI. The Dolphins also stole four bases in the game, including one from Sharpe and Sideli.
 
Tyler Krolikowski (Massapequa, N.Y.) took the loss, allowing six earned runs on five hits and six walks. He struck out three in the game for the Mount. Kieran Monaghan picked up the victory in relief after fanning four and allowing one run in 2.0 innings of work.
 
Mount Saint Vincent got off to a fast start in game two on Tuesday, moving in front 4-2 after a four run first inning. The Dolphins totaled four hits in their first at-bat, with Esposito and Tyler Rieth (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) driving home runs with singles and Steven Maio (Thornwood, N.Y.) pushing two runs across with a two-out double.
 
With a two run lead in the fourth, Mount Saint Vincent saw Staten Island explode for 10 runs in the inning and three more in the fifth to storm back to the victory. Staten Island had only three hits in the 10 run fourth, but used eight walks to its advantage. DiFede and Joseph Palmmeri each drove home two runs in the inning, with Palmeri ripping a double.
 
Staten Island outhit the Mount 9-7 in game two, but worked 10 walks on its way to the sweep. DiFede was the only player with more then one hit, but Staten Island had four players finish with two RBI.
 
Shroeher wrapped up game two 2-for-4 with a run scored, with Maio closing a strong game 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI and a pair of walks. Sideli finished up game two 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Dolphins.
 
Coogan took the loss in game two after allowing four earned runs on two hits in 3.1 innings. He walked five Staten Island hitters and struck out four. Anthony Storz collected the win after working 3.2 innings in relief. He did not allow a run and surrendered just one hit, while fanning four.
 
Tuesday's sweep drops Mount Saint Vincent to 0-15 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back on the field looking for their first win on Wednesday when they travel to Lehman. First pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m.
