Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team finished the 2013 Dolphin Quad Match with a 1-2 record, sweeping Cazenovia and falling to #8 Baruch and #13 Elmira 3-0.
James DiGiovanni (Bay Shore, N.Y.),
Tyler Egan (Laurel Springs, N.J.) and
Brett Holiday (Stratford, N.J.) were all named to the All-Quad Team.
The Dolphins dropped the opener to Baruch on Sunday, who sits eighth in the latest AVCA national poll, by scores of 15-25, 13-25 and 18-25. The Bearcats never trailed in the match and the only two ties of the contest came in the third and final set.
Freshman
Dylan Lolli (Sicklerville, N.J.) paced the Dolphins with eight kills against Baruch and hit an even .300 after committing just two attack errors. Lolli also lifted four digs for the Dolphins in the match.
Holiday and
Timothy Kolodny (Woodland Hills, Calif.) each put away seven kills and Holiday led the Mount with eight digs and two total blocks. DiGiovanni handed out 22 assists and lifted five digs for the Dolphins.
The Bearcats received six kills from three different players, including Aviv Elias who added two service aces and seven digs. Brian Coniglio handed out 32 assists for the Bearcats and added a team-high three total blocks.
In their second match of the day against a nationally ranked opponent, Mount Saint Vincent fell to #13 Elmira by scores of 17-25, 6-25 and 21-25. The Dolphins never led in the match, but forced six of the seven ties in the contest in the third set.
Holiday continued his steady play for the Dolphins in the contest with a team-high seven kills. Kolodny lifted a team-high 13 digs and added two kills, with DiGiovanni totaling 14 assists and six digs.
Mike Ellison paced Elmira with eight kills in the tilt and added four digs. Michael Vellutato recorded 32 assists and three blocks for the visitors and Rob Shade closed the contest with 10 digs.
In the Dolphins win over Cazenovia, the team featured three players with six kills in Holiday, Lolli, and Kolodny. Kolodny hit .333 in the match for the Dolphins and added five digs. Holiday lifted six digs for the Dolphins.
DiGiovanni finished up with 22 assists for the second time on the day and recorded eight digs and Egan paced the team with nine digs. DiGiovanni and
Gerard Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) both totaled two blocks in the game.
With the 1-2 record on Sunday, the Dolphins move to 5-17 overall on the season. Next up for the Dolphins is a trip to Lehman on Tuesday. Match time for the Lightning is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
