Mount Saint Vincent Drops Two At Skyline Rival Farmingdale State

Farmingdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team opened Skyline Conference play on Saturday with two losses on the road at Farmingdale St. The Dolphins were bested by the Rams by scores of 10-3 and 7-1.
 
The Mount got off to a quick start in the opener on Saturday, scoring all three of its runs in its first at-bat. After back-to-back walks to open the inning, Sharpe drove home Keith Schroeher (Riverhead, N.Y.) with the inning's first run and then Jason Rivera (Bronx, N.Y.) plated Kevin Coogan (Bronx, N.Y.) and Sharpe with a double to give the Mount an early 3-0 lead.
 
Farmingdale St. came right back with three runs in the home half of the first and then three more in the bottom of the second. Terrence Bohonan drove in two runs with a single in the first and then two more runs with a base hit in the second as the Rams jumped in front 6-1.
 
The home standing Rams would go on to plate single runs in the third and seventh innings and pushed two across in the fourth to earn the league victory. Farmingdale St.'s pitching staff held the Mount to just one hit after the first inning.
 
Bohonan led five Farmingdale St. players with multiple hits in game one with three, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI. Ron Remi finished up 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI for the Rams.
 
Sharpe closed the opener 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI for the Dolphins with Rivera and Tyler Rieth (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) adding hits for the Mount. Rivera had the Dolphins' only extra base hit and drove in his fifth and sixth runs of the season.
 
Chris Dragone earned the win in relief for Farmingdale St. after firing 5.0 shutout innings, allowing just two hits. He fanned two and did not walk a batter. Tyler Krowlikowski (Massapequa, N.Y.) was saddled with the loss after allowing three runs in 1.0 inning. James Puma (Westlake, N.Y.) came on in relief to work 5.1 innings and striking out five.
 
Mount Saint Vincent would go on to outhit Farmingdale St. 11-9 in game two, but would only mange one run. The Dolphins would have at least one base runner in the first six innings, but hit into a pair of double plays and had a runner cut down at the plate.
 
Remi drove in a run in the second to get Farmingdale St. on the board with a sacrifice bunt and then tripled home the Rams' second run in the third to push the home squad in front 2-0 in the early going.
 
The Dolphins sliced their deficit in half in the fourth with their only run of the contest. With two runners on and two out, Chris Sideli (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chased home Krolikowski with a single to left field.
 
The Rams answered right back with two runs in the fifth on bases loaded walks from Eric Wiener and Tom Rydzewski to jump in front 4-1. Farmingdale St. put the game away with three more runs in the home half of the sixth, with Ryan Levine delivering the big blow with a two-run double.
 
Rydzewski and Dalton McCarthy each went 2-for-3 in game two for Farmingdale St., with McCarthy scoring three runs. Remi and Levine each finished the game with a pair of RBI and the Rams closed the contest with four extra base hits, including three triples.
 
Coogan finished the game a perfect 3-for-3 for the Mount, with Mike Esposito (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) and Sideli each going 2-for-3. Shroeher, Rieth, Sharpe and Craig Weber (Mineola, N.Y.) each picked up one hit in the game for the Dolphins.
 
Matthew DeRamo earned the win with 4.0 solid innings in which he allowed just one run. Michael Kuczinski (Millstone Township, N.J.) took the loss after allowing four earned runs and five walks in 4.2 innings.
 
Following Saturday's sweep, Mount Saint Vincent falls to 0-11 overall on the season and to 0-2 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will be back on the field again Sunday when they take on St. Joseph's-L.I. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
