Bellerose, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Softball team stopped a three game losing streak on Friday with a non-conference sweep on the road at St. Joseph's-Brooklyn. The Dolphins rolled to a 16-1 victory in the opener and then closed the sweep with a 7-3 triumph in game two.
 
In game one, Mount Saint Vincent wasted little time getting on the board with three runs in the top of the first. The Dolphins went on to score at least two runs in each of its at-bats and broke the game open with six tallies in the top of the fifth.
 
With two outs and no one on in the first, Kathleen Davis (Beacon, N.Y.) started the rally with a double. She was pushed across on a Kathryn Dalton (Northampton, Pa.) single to open the scoring. Joanna Makayan (Maspeth, N.Y.) added to the one run lead with a two-run double to close the scoring in the inning.
 
The Mount got right back to work in the second with a run scoring triple from Joann Guerra (Bronx, N.Y.) and an RBI double from Davis to build the lead to 5-0. Danielle Maffei (Valhalla, N.Y.) then added a three-run inside-the-park home-run to blow the Dolphins' lead out to 8-0.
 
After the lady Bears got on the board in the third inning on an Andrea Sideli double, Ashley Winn (Brooklyn, N.Y.) got two runs back with a triple in the top half of the fourth. Davis went on to highlight the six run fifth with a two-run single for the Dolphins.
 
Mount Saint Vincent had six players with at least two hits in game one, with Davis and Winn each going 3-for-4. Davis doubled twice and drove in three runs, with Winn scoring a run and driving home three.
 
Maffei scored twice for the Mount and drove in three runs and Makayan finished up 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI. Dalton closed the game at the plate a perfect 2-for-2 with a pair of runs.
 
Dalton also earned the win in the circle for the Dolphins after working 4.0 strong innings. She allowed one run on five hits and struck out eight. Casey Cuccio (Medford, N.Y.) worked the final inning, striking out two.
 
The Dolphins picked right up where the left off to start game two when Davis tripled home Maffei to open the scoring. Maffei would cross on a wild pitch in the third inning to give the Mount a 2-0 lead before St. Joseph's jumped in front with three runs in the fifth.
 
Trailing 3-2, the Mount got the three runs back in the sixth inning and then secured the sweep with a pair of runs in the seventh. Guerra led off the sixth with a double and was pushed home on another double from Davis to tie the score.
 
With the bases loaded and no one out, Davis scored on a infield fly double play before Cuccio drove home Leeann Cerbone (Bronx, N.Y.) to give the Dolphins a 5-3 lead.
 
Maffei connected on her second inside-park-home run of the day with one out in the seventh and Dalton drove home an insurance run with a groundout to push the Mount in front by four in the final frame.
 
Mount Saint Vincent showed four more players with at least two hits in game two, led by a 3-for-3 effort from Guerra. Guerra doubled twice in the game and also scored two runs for the Dolphins.
 
Maffei finished up game two 2-for-4 with a triple and a home run to go along with three runs scored and an RBI. Davis doubled and tripled in game two and drove in a pair of runs for the Dolphins.
 
Davis closed out a productive day with a no decision after four strong innings in the circle. She allowed only one earned run and fanned eight Lady Bears. Dalton came on to work the final three frames and moved to 3-3 on the season with the win. She allowed one run and struck out three.
 
Friday's sweep improves Mount Saint Vincent's overall record to 3-5 on the season. The Dolphins will look to build on Friday's momentum when they travel to St. Joseph's-L.I. on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
