Mount Saint Vincent Falters Against Ramapo, NJCU

Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team was upended twice on Saturday, falling to league rival Ramapo by scores of 19-25, 15-25 and 6-25 and then to New Jersey City University 10-25, 19-25, 16-25. Timothy Kolodny (Woodland Hills, Calif.) totaled six kills in each match and James DiGiovanni (Bay Shore, N.Y.) handed out 33 assists.
 
Mount Saint Vincent led only briefly in the opener against Ramapo after Brett Holiday (Stratford, N.J.) put away a kill to give the Dolphins an early 1-0 lead. The remainder of the first set saw four tie scores, and six overall in the match, but the Mount would not pull in front again against the Roadrunners.
 
Kolodny paced the Dolphins in the opener with six winners and also added team-highs in service aces with three and defensive digs with seven. Junior Gerard Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) added five winners in the contest ad two total blocks.
 
Holiday finished with two kills and a block with Dylan Lolli (Sicklerville, N.J.) putting away four winners and adding a pair of digs. DiGiovanni rounded out the first match of the day with a pair of kills, 15 assists and a match-high four total blocks.
 
Brian Colabella led all players for Ramapo with 10 kills and hit .533 in the match to go along with three total blocks. Nick Hrehovcik finished with seven kills with Mike Kane and Tyler DeBoer each contributing six.
 
Andrew Balint handed out a match-high 19 assists for Ramapo, while Kane led everyone with a match-high 10 digs for the Roadrunners.
 
Overall in the contest, Ramapo held a 35-19 edge in kills while hitting .319 as a team and lifted 31 digs to 20 for the Mount. Mount Saint Vincent ended the match with a 6-5 advantage in total team blocks.
 
The Dolphins were swept for the second time of the day against NJCU after the Gothic Knights came out in the first set and hit .542 as a team. NJCU committed just one attack error while putting away 14 kills.
 
Holiday rounded out the day with eight kills against the Gothic Knights and added a team-high eight digs. Kolodny and Lolli each chipped in with six kills, with Lolli also adding a pair of blocks.
 
DiGiovanni turned in his second solid performance of the day with 18 assists to go along with five digs. He chipped in two more kills for the Dolphins and a block assist. Reginald Owens (Staten Island, N.Y.) added a pair of blocks against NJCU for the Dolphins.
 
Besmir Arslani paced the Gothic Knights with 10 kills and hit .471 and also rounded out a strong effort with five service aces, seven digs and a block. Daque Wilcox finished up with eight winners and three blocks, with Jon Diaz lifting a match-high 10 digs.
 
NJCU put away 40 kills in the tilt to 23 for the Dolphins and hit an impressive .337 as a team. The Gothic Knights also held the edge in digs 40-26, service aces 7-1 and total team blocks 5-3.
 
With Saturday's results Mount Saint Vincent falls to 3-11 overall on the season and to 3-7 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Dolphins is a trip to John Jay on Monday night. The non-conference match with the Bloodhounds is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
