Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team had its season opening losing streak extended to nine games on Sunday with a doubleheader loss to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn.
Jason Rivera (Bronx, N.Y.) had two hits in each game for the Dolphins who fell by scores of 11-4 and 2-0.
The Dolphins fell behind early in game one on Sunday after the Bears plated three runs in the top of the first. Chris Cutrone plated the first run with a single and Vinny Rossi pushed across two more runs with a two-run base hit.
The Bears would add two more runs in the third and a run in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead before Mount Saint Vincent broke through with four tallies in the home half of the fourth.
Kevin Coogan (Bronx, N.Y.) opened the inning with a walk and
Josh Sharpe (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) singled.
With two runners on and no one out Rivera drove both home with a two-run single for the Mount's first two runs of the game. The first four hitters reached in the inning after a Leutrim 'Tim' Hoxa (Forest Hills, N.Y.) hit and
Keith Brodesser (Copiague, N.Y.) and
Tyler Rieth (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) later drove in runs to get the Mount back to within 6-4.

Cutrone picked up the win for St. Joseph's in game one with a complete game. He allowed four earned runs, while striking out four Dolphins. Tyler Krowlikowski (Massapequa, N.Y.) took the loss after working 3.1 innings, allowing only two earned runs.
Game two proved to be a pitcher's duel between the Mount's
Mike McManus (Queens, N.Y.) and St. Joseph's Rosario DiLorenzo. Neither pitcher allowed a run, until the Bears broke through with two runs in the top of the seventh inning.
With two outs and no one on in the seventh, Joe Mendez doubled for St. Joseph's and later scored the game winning run on a Mike Cundari double. Cutrone later knocked in Cundari for an insurance run.
Mount Saint Vincent did not have a base runner in the game until a Rivera single in the fifth and did not get a runner into scoring position until the home half of the seventh inning when Rivera singled and advanced on a wild pitch.
Cutrone finished game two 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Bears with Mendez and Cundari crossing with the only runs of the game.
Rivera collected two more hits and had two of the Mount's three safties in the game.
Craig Weber (Mineola, N.Y.) added a single for the Dolphins in game two.
