Mount Saint Vincent Outlasts Purchase In Skyline Men’s Volleyball Action

Brett Holiday led the Dolphins with a career-high 18 kills on Wednesday

Purchase, N.Y. – Led by career-high kill totals from Brett Holiday (Stratford, N.J.) and Dylan Lolli (Sicklerville, N.J.), the College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team snapped a six match losing skid with a 20-25, 25-16, 29-27, 19-25 and 15-13 road win at Purchase. Holiday led all players in the match with 18 winners.
 
After dropping the opening set on Wednesday, the Dolphins responded with 31 of their 51 team kills over the next two frames to pull in front 2-1. Purchase rebounded to knot the match at two sets apiece with a win in the fourth before the Mount closed out the win with a two point victory in the fifth and deciding set.
 
Holiday was strong from start to finish on Wednesday after committing only three attack errors and hitting a red-hot .517. He also totaled five total blocks for the Dolphins against the Panthers and was responsible for 21.5 points.
 
Lolli continued his steady season for the Dolphins with 11 winners and eight digs. Wednesday marked the second this season he has reached double-figures in kills and he now sits second on the team in kills with 83.
 
Sophomore James DiGiovanni, who is coming off All-Tournament Team recognition at the Bard Raptors Tournament, rounded out the match on Wednesday with 29 assists to go along with three kills. DiGiovanni also added three digs and a pair of blocks to the winning effort.
 
Other strong performances on the night were turned in by Timothy Kolodny (Woodland Hills, Calif.) who totaled seven kills and eight digs and Tyler Egan (Laurel Springs, N.J.) who led the Dolphins with 12 digs. Cedric Ellison (Worcester, Mass.) totaled three blocks for the Mount and added five kills.
 
The Panthers were led on the night by 16 kills and a match-high 15 digs from Kevon Kareem Bruce and received nine winners from Taylor Edelmann. Alex Billen-Calhoun led all players on Wednesday with 32 assists and added 14 digs and four blocks.
 
Overall on the night, Mount Saint Vincent held the advantage in kills 51-35 and in total team blocks 10-7. The Panthers edged the Dolphins in service aces 5-4 with Edelmann and Jeremy Barton each totaling two.
 
With Wednesday's victory, Mount Saint Vincent improves to 3-9 overall on the season and to 3-5 against Skyline Conference opponents. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Saturday when they play host to a Skyline Conference quad match. The Dolphins will tussle with Ramapo and NJCU starting at 11:00 a.m.
