Harrisonburg, Va. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team closed out their season opening road trip on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader loss at Eastern Mennonite. Jason Rivera (Bronx, N.Y.) hit his first home run of the season in game two for the Dolphins, who fell 9-1 and 16-2.
 
The Royals got off to a quick start in game one and jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one frame. Jonathan Estrada got the scoring started for Eastern Mennonite with a two-run triple in the first and B.J. Mortimer closed out the scoring in the inning with an RBI groundout.
 
After tacking on a run in the third, the Royals broke the game open with five tallies in the home half of the sixth inning on Sunday. Justin Rodriguez and Mortimer picked up run scoring singles in the inning and Kyle Armstrong delivered a two-run triple.
 
The Dolphins would get on the board in their last at-bat in game one after loading the bases when three of the first four hitters in the stanza were hit with a pitch. Chris Sideli (Brooklyn, N.Y.) drove in his first run of the season in the inning with a run scoring groundout.
 
Mount Saint Vincent was outhit 13-3 in the game, with Eastern Mennonite featuring eight different players with a hit. Estrada finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI, with Mortimer, Armstrong and Phillip Jordan all collecting two hits.
 
Rivera, Leutrim 'Tim' Hoxha (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and Kevin Coogan (Bronx, N.Y.) each singled for the Dolphins in the game. Josh Sharpe (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) crossed with the Dolphins' only run of the game.
 
Tyler Krolikowski (Massapequa, N.Y.) made his first career start in the game and worked 5.0 innings. He allowed two earned runs on eight hits in the outing, while fanning four hitters. Adam Posey picked up the complete game win for the Royals, allowing one run on three hits. He struck out seven Mount Saint Vincent hitters.
 
In game two on Sunday, the Royals scored at least one run in each inning and used a four run first and a three run third to build an 8-1 lead. Estrada, Mortimer and Ryan Sanders all drove in runs with base hits in the opening stanza.
 
The Dolphins would get on the board in the second on a sacrifice fly from Mike Esposito (Rockaway Park, N.Y.). Rivera and Keith Brodesser (Copiague, N.Y.) singled in the inning and advanced on a wild pitch. Rivera crossed on Esposito's sacrifice fly.
 
The Royals took advantage of two Mount Saint Vincent miscues in the three-run third and then added four runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to ease to the non-conference victory.
 
Rivera got a run on the board for the Mount in the sixth when he connected on his first home run of the season to lead off the inning. He closed the game 2-for-3 for the Dolphins with two runs scored and an RBI.
 
Coogan finished game two 2-for-3 and Tyler Rieth (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) added a double for the Dolphins.
 
Eastern Mennonite pounded out 17 more hits in game two, with nine players reaching with a base hit. Armstrong closed the game 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI, with Mortimer crossing with four runs and going 3-for-5.
 
Sophomore Michael Kuczinski ( Millstone Township, N.J.) was saddled with the loss after throwing 3.0 innings. He allowed six earned runs on eight hits, striking out two. Daniel Staley earned the victory and moved to 2-1 on the season after working 6.0 effective innings. He surrendered two runs on seven hits and struck out eight against one walk.
 
Sunday's results drop Mount Saint Vincent to 0-3 overall on the young season. The Dolphins will look to rebound next weekend when they travel to Myrtle Beach for four games. The weekend kicks off on Friday with a single game against Johnson and Wales. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
