Men’s Volleyball Suffers Two Losses At Bard Tournament; DiGiovanni Named To All-Tournament Team

Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y.The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team was dealt a pair of losses on Saturday to close out play at the two-day Bard Raptors Tournament. The Mount fell to Berkeley by scores of 15-25, 25-20, 22-25 and 16-25 and then to Sage by scores of 6-25, 12-25 and 11-25. After handing out 46 assists on Saturday, James DiGiovanni (Bay Shore, N.Y.) was named to the event's All-Tournament Team.
 
Against Berkeley to open the day, Timothy Kolodny (Woodland Hills, Calif.) paced the Dolphins with 12 kills. Kolodny finished the match with seven digs for the Dolphins and a pair of total blocks.
 
DiGiovanni posted a double-double in the match for the Mount after handing out a season-high 33 assists and lifting a team-high 13 digs. DiGiovanni rounded out a strong all-around match with three service aces and a kill.
 
Freshman Dylan Lolli (Sicklerville, N.J.) put away nine kills in the match for Mount Saint Vincent to go along with four aces and seven digs. Brett Holiday (Stratford, N.J.) added eight winners and two blocks and Cedric Ellison (Worcester, Mass.) chipped in with seven kills and seven digs.
 
Berkeley received a match-high 14 kills from Keith Barrow who also lifted 10 digs. Abel Cedeno finished with a match-high 14 digs for Berkeley and David Jimenez handed out 22 assists in the win.
 
Overall, Mount Saint Vincent totaled a 40-33 edge in kills in the match but made 10 more errors. Berkeley led the way in digs 56-44 and total team blocks in the contest were even at 4-4.
 
In the second match of the day, the Dolphins were held to 15 kills and a -.016 attack percentage. Kolodny was again the leader in winners with seven and also added a pair of digs.
 
DiGiovanni assisted on 13 of the 15 Mount Saint Vincent kills against Sage and totaled three digs and a kill. Lolli closed the day with four winners and added a block assist and two digs. Tyler Egan (Laurel Springs, N.J.) rounded out the contest with a team-high eight digs.
 
Sage was paced by eight kills each from Dylan Krowicki and Scott Fitzgerald. Kyle Ray, the tournament Most Outstanding Player, finished up with 23 helpers and five digs.
 
The Gators hit an efficient .387 for the match, putting away 33 kills and committing just nine errors. Sage also finished with a big advantage in total team blocks at 6-2.
 
With the losses on Saturday, Mount Saint Vincent's overall record drops to 2-9 on the season. The Dolphins will return to Skyline Conference play on February 27 when they head to Purchase. Match time with the Panthers is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
