Union, N.J. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team split two Skyline Conference matches on Sunday afternoon, sweeping Purchase by scores of 25-22, 25-13 and 25-16 before dropping a three set decision to Sage by scores of 18-25, 14-25 and 23-25.
Timothy Kolodny (Woodland Hills, N.J.) put away 25 kills on the day.
The Dolphins opened the day with their second straight win with the sweep of the Panthers. Kolodny finished off the match leading all players with 10 kills and a .556 hitting percentage. It marked the second straight match that Kolodny has posted double-figures in kills and he also totaled five service aces, three digs and four total blocks.
Freshman
Dylan Lolli (Sicklerville, N.J.) rounded out the match against Purchase with nine winners and four digs for the Mount.
Vin Calasso (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) posted five kills for the Mount and added four digs.
James DiGiovanni (Bay Shore, N.Y.) handed out a match-high 25 assists for the Dolphins and also added three total blocks.
Brett Holiday (Stratford, N.J.) and
Cedric Ellison (Worcester, Mass.) equaled the match-high with four total blocks each.
Overall in the match, Mount Saint Vincent hit .333 as a team and finished off 33 kills to just 18 for Purchase. The Dolphins held the edge on the day in service aces 7-2 and total team blocks 10.5-3.
In the second match of the day against Sage, Kolodny posted a career-high with 15 kills and continued his efficient play with a hitting percentage of .469. Kolodny, who is hitting .263 for the season, added six defensive digs and a block against the Gators.
Lolli reached double-figures in kills for the first time in his career against Sage with 10 winners and he contributed two digs. Tyler Eagan (Laurel Springs, N.J.) and Ellison lifted six digs each for the Mount, with
Reginald Owens (Staten Island, N.Y.) pacing the team with four total blocks.
DiGiovanni turned in his second strong match of the day after handing out 26 assists and lifting a team-high seven digs. Holiday totaled five kills for Mount Saint Vincent and picked up a pair of digs.
Dylan Krowicki led the way with Sage with 11 kills and a .450 hitting percentage. Spencer Hillard led all players with eight digs and Kyle Ray recorded 26 assists. Scott Fitzgerald joined Krowicki with three total blocks.
Sage put away four more kills then the Mount in the contest, posting 36, and also doubled up the Dolphins in aces 4-2. The Gators took the advantage on the day in total team blocks 7-5.
With the split on Sunday, Mount Saint Vincent stands at 2-4 overall and in Skyline Conference play. Following a day off on Monday, the Dolphins will host Kean on Tuesday at the Peter Jay Sharp Center. Match time with the Cougars is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
