Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team picked up its first win of the season on Tuesday night with a 25-19, 25-17 and 25-15 sweep on the road at Yeshiva.
Timothy Kolodny (Woodland Hills, Calif.) paced the Dolphins with 11 kills and five aces.
The opening frame on Tuesday featured six ties and five lead changes, with the Dolphins using an 8-3 closing run to pull in front 1-0 in the match. Kolodny and
Vin Calasso (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) keyed the rally for the Mount with kills.
After falling behind 8-5 in the second set, Mount Saint Vincent used a 6-0 run sparked by a pair of Kolodny service aces and a kill from freshman
Dylan Lolli (Sicklerville, N.J.). The Dolphins used a second 6-0 run to break an 11-11 tie in the second set and the closed with the final three points to take a commanding two set advantage in the match.
The Dolphins needed a four point run in the third frame to overcome a 4-2 deficit and tallied six of eight points later in the stanza to open a 17-10 lead after a kill from
James DiGiovanni (Bay Shore, N.Y.). The Mount put the match away with four of the final five points in the third, including the clinching kill from Lolli to end the contest.
Kolodny committed just one attack error in 19 attempts as he hit a blistering .526 in the match. His five aces were a match-high and he also added a pair of digs and three total blocks for the Dolphins.
Lolli chipped in with eight winners for Mount Saint Vincent and four digs, with Calasso adding seven kills and three defensive digs.
DiGiovanni led all players with 29 assists to go along with three kills and four total blocks.
Brett Holiday (Stratford, N.J.) also had a solid evening with five total blocks, four kills and a pair of digs.
Overall on the night, Mount Saint Vincent hit .313 as a team and put away 36 kills to 22 for Yeshiva. The Dolphins also held the edge in the night 10-7 and in total team blocks 9-1.
Tuesday's triumph pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 1-3 overall and to 1-3 against Skyline Conference opponents. Next up for the Dolphins is a pair of Skyline matches with Purchase and Sage in Union, N.J. on Sunday. The first match of the day is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
