Sideli goes 2-for-3; Rush fans seven

Staten Island, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team closed out the 2012 season on Sunday afternoon with a tight 6-4 loss to John Jay. A pair of sophomores had strong games for the Dolphins, with Chris Sideli (Brooklyn, N.Y.) going 2-for-3 and Brian Rush (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) striking out seven.
 
Mount Saint Vincent found itself down early after the Bloodhounds pushed across a pair of runs in the home half of the first. Trailing 2-0, the Dolphins sliced their deficit in half in the second when T.J. Laible (Rockaway, N.Y.) delivered Leutrim 'Tim' Hoxha (Forest Hills, N.Y.) with a two out single to center field.
 
John Jay would respond and expand its lead 4-1 with single runs in the second and the third. Erik Pratz would score on a wild pitch for the Bloodhounds' third run of the day before Brian McKenna drove home Yahnny Arias with a sacrifice fly in the third inning.
 
The Dolphins would again cut their deficit in half in the sixth inning and got to within 4-2 after Sideli collected his sixth RBI of the season and chased home Kevin Coogan (Bronx, N.Y.) with a single up the middle.
 
After holding John Jay off the board in the home half of the sixth inning, the Bloodhounds pushed the game out of reach with a pair of tallies in the seventh. The Dolphins would mount one final rally in the eighth and put two runs on the board, but were retired in order in the ninth.
 
Sideli was the only Mount Saint Vincent player with more then one hit in the contest with Hoxha scoring half of the team's runs. Laible and Christian Lavery (Westbury, N.Y.) each drove in a run for the Mount in the tilt.
 
Rush took the loss for Mount Saint Vincent and fell to 3-3 on the season. He went 6.0 innings on Sunday, allowing three earned runs on four hits. He fanned seven John Jay hitters and walked just one.
 
Arias finished a strong day for John Jay by going 3-for-4 with two runs out of the lead off spot. Arias and McKenna each finished with a pair of RBI with Pratz scoring two runs for the Bloodhounds.
 
Braylin Perez picked up the win after allowing a pair of runs on five hits. He moved to 7-5 on the season after picking up 10 strikeouts on the day. Owen Kimmel earned his first save after going the final 3.0 frames and fanning two.
 
Sunday's loss to John Jay closes out the 2012 season for Mount Saint Vincent at 15-22 overall.
