Staten Island, N.Y. – Senior Mark Sargente (Commack, N.Y.) drove in two runs for the Dolphins, but the College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team dropped its fourth straight game with an 8-3 loss at Staten Island on Sunday afternoon. Sargente has now driven in five runs over the team's last three games.
 
For the eighth straight game the Dolphins scored a first inning run and closed out their scoring with three tallies in their first at-bat. Christian Lavery (Westbury, N.Y.) got the Mount on the board with a run scoring groundout and Sargente singled home Jason Rivera (Bronx, N.Y.) and Josh Sharpe (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) with a one out single to push the lead to 3-0.
 
Mount Saint Vincent would be held without a hit after the first inning and Staten Island went on to get on the board in the third with a run and would pull in front for good with a three run fourth inning. Over the last eight games, Mount Saint Vincent sits at 3-5 when scoring in its first at-bat.
 
In the big fourth, the first three batters of the frame would single before Staten Island tied the score on a passed ball and an RBI groundout. George Kantzian would give Staten Island a 4-3 advantage with a two out single in the frame.
 
Staten Island would extend the lead to 6-3 with two more runs in the fifth and would push the lead out of reach with a pair of runs in the home half of the eighth.
 
Will Difede and Bryan Moreno led Staten Island with two hits each and James Lewis drove in two runs. Moreno and Sal Todaro each scored two runs in the game for the home standing Dolphins.
 
T.J. Laible (Rockaway, N.Y.), Rivera, Sargente and Gerald Amerosi (Staten Island, N.Y.) all singled in the game for the Mount. Rivera stole a base and scored a run and Sargente drove in his 23rd and 24th runs of the season.
 
Junior right hander Mike McManus (Queens, N.Y.) took the loss for Mount Saint Vincent and fell to 4-3 on the season after working 5.0 innings. He allowed four earned runs on seven hits, while fanning two. James Puma (Thornwood, N.Y.) worked 3.0 innings on Sunday and allowed two runs on a hit for the Dolphins.
 
Richard Anderson picked up the win for Staten Island with 8.0 strong innings of work. He surrendered just one earned run on four hits. He struck out seven Mount Saint Vincent hitters against just one walk.
 
With the loss the Dolphins fall to 15-21 overall on the season. Mount Saint Vincent will close out the 2012 season later this afternoon when it takes on John Jay. First pitch with the Bloodhounds is set for 3:30 p.m.
