Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team closed out the 2012 season on Wednesday night with a 15-25, 16-25, 26-24 and 23-25 loss on the road at #9 Vassar. Senior Chris Bacchi (Hicksville, N.Y.) led the offensive charge with 19 kills, while classmate Michael Sin (Hicksville, N.Y.) posted his second double-double of the season.
 
Vassar got off to a quick start on Wednesday to jump out to a 2-0 lead in the match. The Brewers combined for 31 of their 50 kills in the first two sets and put away 17 winners and hit .444 in the second set alone.
 
Mount Saint Vincent got back into the match in the third after it outlasted Vassar 26-24. The Dolphins finished off 15 kills in the set and used a six point run in the latter stages of the frame to move in front 23-20. After Vassar battled back to knot the score at 24-24, James DiGiovanni (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and Joe Ecock (Brooklyn, N.Y.) put down kills to bring the Mount to within a set in the match.
 
The Dolphins would jump out to a 12-8 lead in the fourth set on Wednesday and used a six point run to rebound from a two point deficit to build the lead. Bacchi keyed the spurt by the Dolphins with three kills.
 
Mount Saint Vincent would build a lead as large as five points in the stanza, but would see Vassar tie the sore at 19-19. The Brewers would go on to score the final four points of the set and rallied from a 23-21 deficit to earn the 3-1 victory.
 
Bacchi led all players in kills on Wednesday with his 19 and he hit an impressive .359 for the Dolphins. He also recorded six digs for the Mount and collected a pair of service aces.
 
Ecock rounded out his strong senior campaign with 16 kills to go along with 10 digs and three total blocks. It marked Ecock's first double-double of the season and the seventh time in the last nine matches he posted double-figures in kills.
 
Sin reached his double-double on Wednesday by handing out 40 assists for the Dolphins and lifting 14 digs. He was one of three Mount Saint Vincent players with at least 10 digs in the match, joining Ecock and Timothy Kolodny (Woodland Hills, Calif.) who recorded a match-high 17.
 
Vassar was paced by 12 kills from Lucas Rathjens and by 10 each from Patrick Donohue and Mathew Elgin. Clifford Quinn posted 33 assists in the match for the Brewers and Joe Pyne lifted a team-high 13 digs.
 
For the match, Vassar finished with three more kills then the Mount with 50 and also lifted 62 digs to 57 for the Dolphins. Mount Saint Vincent did hold a 10-8 edge in total team blocks with Brett Holiday (Stratford, N.J.) leading the way with five.
 
Wednesday's loss ends Mount Saint Vincent's season with an 11-16 overall record.
