Bronxville, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Softball team closed the 2012 season on a high note on Saturday with a pair of wins against Sarah Lawrence, flying by the Gryphons by scores of 23-7 and 17-0. The Mount Saint Vincent bats pounded out 26 hits over the two games and the Dolphins posted their two highest run totals of the season.
Mount Saint Vincent put game one away early on Saturday with 14 tallies in its first at-bat. All nine players in the Dolphins' lineup scored at least one run in the frame.
Victoria Cardillo (Boston, Mass.) and
Joanna Makayan (Queens, N.Y.) each collected two-run base hits in the first, with Cardillo totaled three RBI in the frame.
The Dolphins went on to score nine more runs over their final three at-bats and had six player with at least two hits in the game. Cardillo paced the team by going 4-for-4 with a double to go along with two runs and six RBI.
Makayan and
Leeann Cerbone (Bronx, N.Y.) each finished with three hits and two runs scored, with Makayan ripping a double and driving home two runs.
Kathleen Davis (Beacon, N.Y.) also had a big game one and rounded out the contest 3-for-5 with a double, four runs scored and three RBI.
Davis also picked up her eighth win of the season in the circle in game one after allowing just one base hit. She allowed three earned runs in the game and fanned seven. She did not allow a Sarah Lawrence hit until top of the fifth inning.
In game two, the Mount picked right up where it left off in the opener on its way to 17 runs. The Dolphins got all the scoring they would need with two runs in the first and they went on to add five in the second, four in the third and six in the fifth.
The Dolphins featured another balanced offensive attack with each player recording a hit and five players picking up multiple safeties in the game. The Mount finished with 16 more hits and its five doubles gave it 10 on the day.
Makayan sparked the attack in game two after finishing 4-for-5 with a double and two runs scored out of the leadoff spot.
Marni O'Shea (White Plains, N.Y.) collected two hits, including a double, and also scored two times and led the team with three RBI.
Davis had another strong game at the plate after picking up a double and scoring three times.
Brianna Mooney (Yonkers, N.Y.) also scored three times and finished game two 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Freshman
Courtney Keane (Yonkers, N.Y.) fired the team's second one hitter of the day in the circle as she earned her fifth win of the year. She struck out four Sarah Lawrence hitters and allowed only one walk. Keane also went 2-for-3 with two runs and four RBI at the plate.
With the sweep on Saturday, Mount Saint Vincent closes out the 2012 season with a 13-27 overall record.
