Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Softball team earned a split with visiting Purchase on Saturday, winning 4-3 in eight innings and then falling 7-2 in game two. The game one win on Senior Day snaps a 26 game Skyline Conference losing streak for the Dolphins.

Mount Saint Vincent jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the opener with two runs in the home half of the third inning. Senior Marni O'Shea (White Plains, N.Y.) drove home both runs with a two-out single in the frame.

The two run lead would hold up until Purchase tied the score with two runs of its own in the top of the seventh. After the Dolphins went scoreless in their half of the seventh, the Panthers took their first lead of the game with a run in the eighth when Abigail Katz crossed on an error.

Trailing 3-2 in the eighth, Mount Saint Vincent rallied with two runs to sneak away with the game one win. Leeann Cerbone tied the score at 3-3 when she plated Joanna Makayan (Queens, N.Y.) with a single and O'Shea later won the game when she pushed Cerbone across with her third RBI of the game.

O'Shea rounded out game one 3-for-4 with the three RBI, while Cerbone finished up 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Brianna Mooney (Yonkers, N.Y.) also collected a hit and scored twice for the Dolphins.

Kathleen Davis (Beacon, N.Y.) earned her sixth win of the season in game one after allowing one earned run on seven hits. She struck out 10 Purchase hitters and allowed just one walk.

In game two on Saturday, Mount Saint Vincent fell behind early as Purchase pushed across all seven of its runs in its first two at-bats. Christine Leo got the scoring started in the first with a run scoring triple and Mariel Perez added an RBI single in a three run first inning.

Purchase extended its lead to 7-0 in the second with Perez and Alyse LaPadula each recording a run scoring base hit for the Panthers in the frame.

The Dolphins would get on the board with their only two runs of the game in the home half of the third on Saturday. After Cerbone, Davis and O'Shea each singled in the inning, Courtney Keane (Yonkers, N.Y.) plated them the lead two runners with a two-run single.

Davis paced the offensive attack for the Mount in game two with a 3-for-4 effort with one run scored, with senior Rosanna Pulice (Bronx, N.Y.) adding three base hits on senior day.

Davis had another strong effort in the circle after coming on in relief in the second inning. She picked up 10 more strikeouts and allowed only four hits in 5.2 scoreless innings of work. Keane took the loss after allowing five earned runs in 1.1 innings.

With the split on Saturday, Mount Saint Vincent moves to 10-26 overall on the season and to 1-13 in league play. The Dolphins will be back on the diamond again on Tuesday when they travel to Saint Elizabeth. The non-conference set is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
