Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Softball squad stopped its 12 game losing streak on Monday afternoon after earning a split in a non-conference set with visiting John Jay. Kathleen Davis (Beacon, N.Y.) had a strong day after fanning nine in the Dolphins' 9-0 game one win and then 11 more in a tight 1-0 loss in game two.

Davis earned her fourth win of the season in the opener after spinning a one hitter and striking out nine Bloodhounds. It was her first career shutout and she also helped her own cause at the plate with a 2-for-3 effort with a run and an RBI.

After scoring just eight total runs over the 12 game losing streak, the Dolphins erupted for six runs in the first inning in game one on Monday. The first three Mount Saint Vincent players in the inning reached on singles, with Davis driving home Brianna Mooney (Yonkers, N.Y.) with the eventual game winning run.

Senior Rosanna Pulice (Bronx, N.Y.) drove home two runs in the first with a single and Ashley Winn (Brooklyn, N.Y.) ripped a two-run home run to center field that eluded John Jay's Nella Vega's diving attempt.

The Dolphins finished the game with 12 hits and featured five players with at least two safeties. Leeann Cerbone (Bronx, N.Y.) was a perfect 3-for-3 in the opener with a pair of runs scored. Winn rounded out the game 2-for-2 with the home run to go along with a run and three RBI.

Joanna Makayan (Queens, N.Y.) also had a perfect game at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a run, with Pulice finishing up 2-for-3. Mooney led the Dolphins with three runs scored out of the leadoff spot.

In game two, Mount Saint Vincent was shutout for the sixth time in its last seven games after the Bloodhounds' Crystal Johnson singled home Lana Kovac with the lone run of the game.

The Dolphins would threaten four times in the game and would strand 10 runners in the contest, including three in the first inning. The Mount put the first two runners on in the seventh, but lost a runner in scoring position after leaving early with no one out in the inning.

The Mount outhit John Jay in game two, but could not get the key base hit against Bloodhound starter Johnson. She picked up the win after going the distance and allowing five hits and fanning seven. She was also 1-for-3 at the plate with the only RBI in the game.

Davis had her second strong start of the day in Monday's second game after going 7.0 innings and recording a career-high 11 strikeouts. She allowed one run on three hits and surrendered one walk.

Makayan rounded out a strong day at the play with two more hits and she also stole her eighth base of the season.

With the split on Monday, the Mount moves to 6-18 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back in action again on April 10 when they play host to York. First pitch at Van Cortlandt Park is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
