Farmingdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent's Men's Lacrosse team saw the 2012 season close on Wednesday with a 15-4 loss at league rival Farmingdale State.
Bruce Pappas (Montrose, N.Y.) and
Rowan Frederick (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each recorded two points in the game, while
Kyle Kalibat (Oceanside, N.Y.) made 10 saves in goal.
The home standing Rams used a six goal first quarter to open a four goal lead through the first 15 minutes. Farmingdale State tallied the first four goals of the game before
Frank Maddaloni (Bronx, N.Y.) scored his second of the season with just under five minutes to play in the opening period.
John Petito (Staten Island, N.Y.) would add his seventh of the season with 1:10 left in the first stanza, which would mark the Dolphins' last score until Steve Dyckman (Elmont, N.Y.) tallied for the Dolphins off a feed from Frederick at the 9:26 mark of the third period.
The Rams used a balanced scoring attack on Wednesday that saw seven different players record goals. Bobby Thomas scored four times for Farmingdale State, with Brad Rapone and Jason Opitz each finding the back of the cage three times.
Donovan Devaney picked up eight groundballs to lead the Rams and Opitz added five. Devaney also finished the day a perfect 8-for-8 in face-offs.
Frederick finished the contest with a goal and an assist for the Dolphins and Pappas handed out a pair of assists in the tilt.
Larry Caputo (Hicksville, N.Y.) led the Mount with four groundballs and he joined Maddaloni with a team-high two caused turnovers.
Kalibat came on to play the final three quarters for the Dolphins and rounded out the day with 10 stops and a groundball. The Rams used three net minders with Patrick Delventhal and Tom McDevitt each making three saves.
For the game, Mount Saint Vincent was outshot by Farmingdale State 38-22 and the Rams also held the advantage in groundballs 43-21. Farmingdale State also had a strong day in face-offs after going 14-for-20 as a team.
Wednesday's loss was Mount Saint Vincent's sixth straight and it closes the Dolphins' season at 7-10 overall and 0-6 in Skyline Conference play.
