Softball Suffers Two Losses To Visiting St. Joseph’s-L.I.

Keane records three hits in game one

Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Softball team was back in action on Sunday afternoon and dropped a Skyline Conference twinbill to St. Joseph's-L.I. by scores of 7-4 in eight innings and 10-0. Freshman Courtney Keane (Yonkers, N.Y.) collected three hits in game one for the Dolphins.
 
After the two teams traded runs in the first inning, the Golden Eagles jumped out to a 3-1 lead after scoring single runs in the second ad third frames. The two run lead would hold until Mount Saint Vincent scored three times in the fifth to take its first lead of the afternoon.
 
Trailing by two heading to the bottom of the fifth, the Mount recorded three hits in the inning, including RBI singles from Leeann Cerbone (Bronx, N.Y.) and Keane to pull in front 4-3.
 
The Dolphins would hang on to the slim advantage until a two-out RBI single from Julia De Carmine tied the score at 4-4 in the seventh. After the Mount went scoreless in the home half of the inning, St. Joseph's escaped with the win with three tallies in the eighth. Courtney Frisina drove home two with two outs in the inning to give the Golden Eagles the final three run cushion.
 
Frisina finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI in the game with Tara Bernocco and Nicole Reda each scoring two times for the visitors.
 
Keane finished the game with three of the Dolphins' six hits in the game and Joanna Makayan (Queens, N.Y.) crossed with two runs scored. Rosanna Pulice (Bronx, N.Y.) and Brianna Mooney (Yonkers, N.Y.) also scored runs for the Mount.
 
Kathleen Davis (Beacon, N.Y.) took the loss in the circle for Mount Saint Vincent after working 8.0 innings and allowing five earned runs on eight hits. She struck out six St. Joseph's batters. De Carmine picked up the win with eight strikeouts and two earned runs against.
 
In game two, Mount Saint Vincent was stifled by Cassie Martinez who allowed seven singles in 5.0 innings. She fanned four and did not walk a batter for St. Joseph's in the game.
 
The Golden Eagles got all the scoring they would need with two runs in the first and put the game out of reach with four tallies in the fourth. De Carmine drove home two runs with a double in the fourth and later crossed on a Julianne Tierney triple in the inning.
 
De Carmine, Tierney and Gina Moscatelli each drove in two runs for St. Joseph's in game two, with Frisina, Bernocco and De Carmine each scoring twice in the game for the Golden Eagles.
 
Davis and Marni O'Shea (White Plains, N.Y.) collected a pair of hits each for the Mount in the backend of the set to lead Mount Saint Vincent.
 
With the losses on Sunday, Mount Saint Vincent falls to 8-24 overall on the season and to 0-12 in league action. The Dolphins will be back on the field again on Thursday evening when they host St. Joseph's-Brooklyn. First pitch at Sprout Brook Park in Cortlandt Manor is set for 6:00 p.m.
