Farmingdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Softball squad was handed a pair of losses on Saturday afternoon at Farmingdale State, falling to the host Rams by scores of 8-0 and 12-3. Sophomore
Leeann Cerbone (Bronx, N.Y.) recorded a hit in each game and
Ashley Winn (Brooklyn, N.Y.) doubled in game two for the Mount.
In the opener Farmingdale State scored in each of its last five at-bats, including a two run third inning and a three run fourth. Jennifer Jarczynski sparked the third inning rally with a run scoring double, while Kaitlin Keenan struck with a two-run double in the fourth.
Joanna Makayan (Queens, N.Y.) recorded one of the Mount's two hits in the game with a two out single in the top of the first and Cerbone led of the fourth with a single for the Dolphins' only other safety of the game. The Mount's only other base runner of the game came in the third when
Marni O'Shea was hit by a pitch.
The Rams finished the game with four players with two hits with Keenan leading the way with two RBI. Farmingdale State struck for four extra base hits in game one and stole four bases.
Hope Zino picked up the win after working 6.0 innings for the Rams and allowing just the two singles. She struck out seven and did not walk a batter as she improved her record to 9-4 on the season.
In game two Mount Saint Vincent got on the board and jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top half of the second inning. After
Kathleen Davis (Beacon, N.Y.) led of the inning with a single she was quickly moved to third on Winn's double.
Davis would later score on a wild pitch and Winn would be pushed across on a bunt single from
Casey Leake (Putnam Valley, N.Y.).
The Rams would respond with three runs in the home half of the inning to take lead they would not give up. After the first three hitters of the inning reached, Lauren Nelson cleared the bases with a three-run double to give Farmingdale State a 3-2 advantage.
Farmingdale State would expand its lead to 6-2 with three runs in the third and put the game out of reach with six more runs in the fourth inning. Nelson drove home two more runs in the third before Amanda Maass and Hilary Genova produced two-run base hits.
Nelson rounded out the game 2-for-3 with a run and five RBI, while Jarczynski went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Sam Johrden also wrapped up 3-for-3 for Farmingdale State with a run scored.
Winn collected the Mount's only extra base hit of the day and was one of five different players to record a hit in game two. She crossed with two of the Dolphins' three runs in the game after going 1-for-1 with a walk.
Davis picked up a hit in game two and scored a run, but took the loss in both games for Mount Saint Vincent. She fell to 5-19 on the season after striking out one hitter on the day and walking six.
Taylor Tedeschi picked up the game two win for Farmingdale State after working 4.0 innings and allowing three runs on four hits. She also fanned four and walked two Dolphins.
With the sweep on Saturday, Mount Saint Vincent falls to 8-22 on the season and to 0-10 in league play. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Sunday when they play host to St. Joseph's-L.I. First pitch at Van Cortlandt Park is set for 12:00 p.m.
