Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team was dealt a pair of league losses on Sunday, falling to visiting Farmingdale State by scores of 12-6 and 10-5. Senior infielder
T.J. Laible (Rockaway, N.Y.) drove home two runs for the Mount in the game one loss.
After the Rams plated single runs in the first three innings in game one, the Mount erupted for five tallies n the home half of the fourth to jump in front 5-3. Prior to the fourth the Dolphins were held to one hit in their first three at-bats, but strung together seven safeties, including six straight with two outs, to spark the rally.
Gerald Amerosi (Staten Island, N.Y.) singled home the Mount's first run, before Laible tied the score at 3-3 with a two-run triple to right center field.
Christian Lavery (Westbury, N.Y.) and
Jason Rivera (Bronx, N.Y.) would also collect two-out RBI singles in the inning for the Dolphins.
Mount Saint Vincent would go on to extend its lead to 6-3 in the sixth inning when Amerosi crossed on a
Josh Sharpe (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) groundball to short stop. The throw to the plate to cut Amerosi down was dropped as Amerosi slide home safely.
After gaining the three run lead, the Mount saw the visitors plate six runs in the seventh inning to take the lead for good in the game. Danny Devito recorded an RBI double in the big inning and Thomas Rydzewski capped the rally with a two-run, two out single through the left side.
Rydzewski finished the opener 3-for-6 with two runs and three RBI for the Rams, with DeVito going 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Devito ripped a pair of doubles in the game with Ron Remi going 2-for-5 with a triple.
Mount Saint Vincent had eight different players record a hit in game one, including the six hitters in the order. Laible had the only extra base hit of the game for the Mount and led the way with his two RBI. Amerosi finished the game 1-for-3 with a run and a RBI.
Domonick Morelli earned the win for Farmingdale State in relief after coming on to work 4.0 scoreless innings. He did not allow a hit and struck out four Mount Saint Vincent hitters.
Dan DiLascio suffered the loss in relief for Mount Saint Vincent after allowing three unearned runs in a third of an inning of work.
Brian Rush (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) made the start for Mount Saint Vincent and went 4.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits.
The Dolphins would again face an early deficit in game two and again would rally with a five run inning to pull in by four through two innings.
Kevin Coogan (Bronx, N.Y.) delivered two runs with a triple up the left center field gap with
Benjamin Toro, Jr. (Bronx, N.Y.) and Laible also adding run scoring safeties.
Farmingdale would respond by scoring in its final six at-bats in game two and pulled in front with a four run sixth inning. Edward Bergmann was responsible for the big blow in the inning with a two-run double.
The Rams finished the game with four extra base hits as they outhit the Mount 9-4 overall. Rydzewski played another key role in the Rams' win by going 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI out of the leadoff spot. Terrence Bohonan doubled for Farmingdale St. and was responsible for two RBI.
Coogan finished game two 1-for-3 with a run and two RBI for the Dolphins with Laible and Toro each picking up a base hit and a run batted in.
Mark Sargente (Commack, N.Y.) added the other hit for the Mount and scored a run.
Matt Calandrillo (Cold Spring, N.Y.) took the loss for Mount Saint Vincent after working 5.1 innings and allowing eight earned runs on six hits. He struck out two and walked two in the outing.
Matt DeRamo came on in relief for the Rams to pick up the win and went 3.1 innings, allowing just one base hit. He fanned three and walked one.
With Sunday's results, Mount Saint Vincent falls to 12-15 overall on the season and to 4-8 in Skyline play. The Dolphins will look to get back on track on Tuesday when they host non-conference for Ramapo. First pitch at Lehman College is set for 8:00 p.m.
