Dolphins Collect Two Victories Over York

Riverdale, N.Y. – College of Mount Saint Vincent senior Marni O'Shea (White Plains, N.Y.) slugged three home runs and drove in six on Tuesday afternoon as the Dolphins scored a pair of wins over visiting York, downing the Cardinals 9-0 and 10-2 to snap a three game losing streak.
 
In the opener on Tuesday, the Mount scored in four of its five at-bats and opened a 4-0 lead with three tallies in the second inning. Freshman Kathleen Davis (Beacon, N.Y.) keyed the inning with a two-run single.
 
O'Shea ripped her first home run of the day in a two run third inning as she laced an offering to left field to stake the Dolphins to a 7-0 advantage. Davis would add her first round tripper of the season in the home half of the fifth inning, driving home all three of the Dolphins' runs in the frame.
 
Davis and Ashley Winn (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each collected three hits for the Dolphins who outhit the Cardinals 11-4 in the opener. Davis crossed with a run scored and drove home five runs.
 
O'Shea finished the contest 2-for-4 with two runs and a pair of RBI and Leeann Cerbone (Bronx, N.Y.) rounded out the game 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a pair of walks. Rosanna Pulice (Bronx, N.Y.) added an RBI for the Mount.
 
Courtney Keane (Yonkers, N.Y.) earned the win in the circle for the Dolphins in game one and improved to 3-3 on the season. She allowed four hits and struck out five Cardinals on the way to her first career shutout.
 
After falling behind 1-0 in the game two in the third inning, Mount Saint Vincent quickly rallied to take the lead for good in the home half of the frame with two runs. O'Shea would get the Mount out front with her first home run of the game, a two-run shot with two outs in the inning.
 
Mount Saint Vincent would go on to add two more runs in the fourth and would put the game out of reach with five tallies in the fifth inning. O'Shea was in the middle of the rally once again with her second two-run home run of the game.
 
O'Shea went a perfect 3-for-3 for the Mount in game two to go along with two runs, a walk and four runs batted in. She has now moved into the team lead in hitting with a .301 average and is second on the squad with 11 RBI.
 
Joanna Makayan (Flushing, N.Y.), Brianna Mooney (Yonkers, N.Y.), Davis and Winn all finished with two hits in game two. Mooney scoreed twice for Mount Saint Vincent and Winn drove in a pair of runs.
 
Davis earned her fifth win of the season for the Dolphins as she finished off her 17th complete game of the year. She allowed one earned run on three hits and fanned nine York batters against only one walk.
 
With the sweep, Mount Saint Vincent moves to 8-20 overall on the season. The Dolphins will look to build on Tuesday's momentum when they return to action on Saturday afternoon at Farmingdale St. First pitch with the Rams is set for 12:00 p.m.
