Newburgh, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Softball team dropped its 12
th straight contest on Sunday afternoon after a doubleheader sweep at the hands of league rival Mount Saint Mary. Freshman
Kathleen Davis (Beacon, N.Y.) struck out four Knights in each game for the Dolphins.
In the opener, Mount Saint Mary scored in each of its four at-bats, including a three run second and a two run fourth. Lacey Kehlenbeck keyed the second inning rally with a two-run double and Chelsea Hepburn doubled home two more for the Knights in the fourth inning.
Mount Saint Mary outhit Mount Saint Vincent 8-2 in the opener, with
Marni O'Shea (White Plains, N.Y.) and
Brianna Mooney (Yonkers, N.Y.) collecting the safeties for the Dolphins. O'Shea also swiped a base for the Mount in game one.
Caitlin Maynes picked up the win for the Knights after fanning eight Dolphins and allowing the two hits. Victoria DeMarco joined Kehlenbeck and Hepburn with a pair of RBI in the game for Mount Saint Mary.
Davis took the loss for Mount Saint Vincent after going 4.0 innings, allowing five earned runs on eight hits. She struck out four Mount Saint Mary hitters and walked four as she fell to 3-13 on the season.
In game two, Mount Saint Mary got all the scoring it needed with four runs in the first inning. The Knights would take advantage of two Mount Saint Vincent errors and received a run scoring base hit from Danielle Soto and another two-run double from Hepburn.
Amanda Barrese shut down the Dolphins for the second time on Sunday after allowing just a two out single to O'Shea in the third inning. She struck out five in earning the win and did not walk a batter.
Davis also had a solid outing after allowing just three earned runs in 6.0 innings on eight hits. She did not walk a batter and struck out four more Mount Saint Mary hitters. She now has 73 punch outs on the season.
Following Sunday's results the Dolphins have dropped 20 straight league contests dating back to the 2011 campaign and stand at 5-17 overall and 0-6 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will look to get back on track Monday afternoon when they play host to John Jay. First pitch at Van Cortlandt Park is set for 4:00 p.m.
