New York, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team pushed its season opening winning streak to three games on Tuesday and took the season series from the City College of New York with an impressive 18-3 win.
Jason Rivera (Bronx, N.Y.) and
Vinny Todino (Eastchester, N.Y.) each finished the day with three hits.
After being held scoreless in its first two at-bats on Tuesday, the Mount exploded for all 18 of its run in the next five innings. After
Josh Sharpe (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) started the third with a double, he was quickly driven home on an RBI single from Rivera to push the Mount in front 1-0.
The Mount extended its lead with four more runs in the fourth inning capped by a two-run single from Rivera before putting the game away with nine tallies in the fifth. Masullo capped off the big inning with a two-run double for the Dolphins.
Rivera closed out a big day going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI. Rivera now sits as the team leader in batting at .571 and in RBI with seven through the first three games of the season.
Todino also closed out the day 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored, a pair of runs batted in to go along with two walks. Masullo was the other Mount Saint Vincent with multiple hits on the day after going 2-for-6 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI.
Sharpe closed out his afternoon with a double in two official trips and also scored three times after drawing three walks. He is tied for the team lead with six runs scored and holds an impressive .733 on-base percentage.
Mark Sargente (Commack, N.Y.) drew four of the team's 17 walks on the day and crossed with three runs.
Tuesday's tilt proved to be one of the most productive to date for the Dolphins, as they finished the afternoon with season-highs in hits with 13, doubles with four and walks with 17.
The Mount Saint Vincent pitching staff also had another solid day after
Mike McManus (Queens, N.Y.) worked 3.0 scoreless innings in his second start of the season. He did not allow a hit in the outing and fanned three.
Dan DiLascio (Yonkers, N.Y.) picked up the win after working a scoreless inning of relief with
Anthony Granitto (Bronx, N.Y.) and
Jeff Martin (West Babylon, N.Y.) also throwing scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
With the win, Mount Saint Vincent moves to 3-0 overall on the season heading into a non-conference game at Staten Island on Thursday. First-pitch with the Dolphins is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
