Patchogue, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team had its league losing streak extended to five games on Saturday after dropping 11-3 and 3-0 decisions at St. Joseph's-L.I. The Dolphins were paced by a three hit effort from
Benjamin Toro, Jr. (Bronx, N.Y.) in game one of the twinbill.
After falling behind 3-0 in the opener, Mount Saint Vincent rallied with a run in the third and two more in the forth to knot the score at three runs apiece.
Josh Sharpe (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) pushed across the first run with a sacrifice fly and
Leutrim 'Tim' Hoxha (Forest Hills, N.Y.) aided the two run forth with a sacrifice fly of his own.
The Golden Eagles would respond in the home half of the fourth with three runs to take the lead for good. St. Joseph's would add on two more in the fifth and three in the seventh. Prateek Thaman played a big role in the seventh inning rally with a two-run single for the Golden Eagles.
Thaman drove in three runs in the game for St. Joseph's, while Dennis Nover, Brian Hannigan and Rich Pecoraro each picked up three base hits. Two of Pecoraro hits were doubles and he also led the team with three runs scored.
Toro rounded out the game 3-for-4 with a run for the Dolphins and
T.J. Laible (Rockaway, N.Y.) finished up 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Brian Rush (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) took the loss and fell to 2-1 on the season for the Mount. He worked 4.2 innings and allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits. He struck out three and walked one for the Dolphins.
Dan DiLascio (Yonkers, N.Y.) came on to work 1.1 scoreless innings and lowered his team leading earned run average to 1.59.
Jason Dierkes improved to 3-1 for St. Joseph's after going 7.0 innings and allowing two earned runs on five hits. He fanned four and walked two in the outing.
In game two on Saturday, Mount Saint Vincent was stifled by Golden Eagles' starter Mike Bazoge. The Dolphins mustered just four singles as Bazoge worked the complete game and moved to 3-1 on the season. He fanned 10 Dolphins in the game and walked five.
Mike McManus (Queens, N.Y.) had a solid start for the Dolphins, but took the loss after going 5.0 innings and allowing three runs on seven hits. He struck out three Golden Eagles and walked only one.
The Golden Eagles would get all the scoring they needed in their first at-bat when they plated a pair of runs on a Hannigan groundout and Pecoraro run scoring single. St. Joseph's tacked on an insurance run in the fifth on a Thaman RBI single.
Anthony Delury was the only player in the game with more then one hit as he went 2-for-2 with two runs scored for St. Joseph's. Thaman went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.
Christian Lavery (Westbury, N.Y.), Sharpe,
Anthony Masullo (Howard Beach, N.Y.) and
Mark Sargente (Commack, N.Y.) each picked up a hit for Mount Saint Vincent in game two.
Following Saturday's results, Mount Saint Vincent falls to 9-11 overall on the season and to 1-5 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will look to get back on track in league play on Sunday when they take on Maritime. The home set originally scheduled for noon at Concordia College will now be played at Maritime. First pitch remains 12:00 p.m.
