Mount Saint Vincent Gets Back On Track At Lehman

Bronx, N.Y. – Junior Kevin Coogan (Bronx, N.Y.) doubled and homered for the College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team as the Dolphins snapped a three game skid with a 13-5 road win at Lehman on Tuesday. Coogan finished the game 4-for-5 with three RBI.
 
Mount Saint Vincent jumped out to an early 3-0 lead over the Lightning after scoring single runs in the first three innings. Coogan picked up his first run batted in with a bases loaded walk in the first, before ripping an inside-the-park home run in the third. T.J. Labile (Rockaway, N.Y.) drove in the middle run with a single in the second inning.
 
The Dolphins would push their lead out to 6-0 with a three-run fourth inning and added three more in the sixth, two in the seventh and two in the ninth to put the game away. Jason Rivera (Bronx, N.Y.) connected on his first home run of the season in the sixth and he and Coogan both drove home runs in the seventh with ground rule doubles.
 
Overall on the night, Mount Saint Vincent had five players with at least two hits, with Coogan leading the way. He is now hitting .442 on the season with nine extra base hits and 16 RBI.
 
Rivera added to his team-high in RBI with three more on Tuesday and now has 25 to lead the Dolphins. He rounded out the night 2-for-4 with two runs. Josh Sharpe (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.), Benjamin Toro, Jr. (Bronx, N.Y.) and Vinny Todino (Eastchester, N.Y.) each finished with a pair of hits, with Sharpe and Toro scoring three times.
 
Todino and Tyler Rieth (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) both drove in two runs for the Mount with Rieth reaching three ties via the walk. Mount Saint Vincent was also hit seven times in the game and has reached on a hit by pitch 35 times this season.
 
James Puma (Thornwood, N.Y.) picked up his first win of the season on the mound after working five strong innings. Puma allowed one run on four hits in the outing and fanned six without walking a hitter. Anthony Granitto (Bronx, N.Y.) worked a scoreless ninth for the Mount, allowing a hit and striking out a hitter.
 
The 13 runs marks the third time in the last five games the Dolphins have pushed across at least 10 runs in a game and the 15 hit attack improves the team's batting average to .299 on the season. The Dolphins have also reached base at a .413 clip as a unit through 18 games.
 
The win evens Mount Saint Vincent's overall record at 9-9 on the season. The Dolphins will look to climb back to .500 in the league when they return to action on Saturday at St. Joseph's-L.I. First pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m.
