Men’s Volleyball Sweeps John Jay, Grabs Fifth Straight Win

Bacchi closes home career with 17 kills

Riverdale, N.Y. – Behind 17 kills and a .593 hitting percentage from Chris Bacchi (Hicksville, N.Y.) the College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team picked up an impressive 25-7, 25-12, 25-19 win over John Jay on Monday night. The win on Senior Night is the fifth straight for the Dolphins.
 
Mount Saint Vincent was never threatened in the match and ran out to a quick 8-0 lead in the first set. Bacchi put away two kills over that opening run as the Dolphins hit a red-hot .591 in the opening stanza.
 
After falling behind briefly early in the second set, the Dolphins used a 5-0 run to come back from a 9-8 deficit and closed the set with the last 12 points on their way to a 2-0 advantage in the match.
 
The Mount would not be able to get much separation from the Bloodhounds in the third set on Monday, but used a 4-0 run to break a 9-9 tie and then a 6-2 run to close the set and earn its fifth straight victory. The triumph also gives the Mount a 6-5 home record in 2012.
 
Bacchi was red-hit all night for the Mount after totaling a match-high 17 kills. He did not commit an attack error until the final set and has now hit better then .300 in the last five outings. He also lifted six digs in the victory for the Dolphins.
 
Freshman Brett Holiday (Stratford, N.J.) rounded out a steady night with seven winners and three total blocks, with Joe Ecock (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipping in with six kills and a career-high 12 digs.
 
Michael Sin (Hicksville, N.Y.) also closed out his home career in fine fashion on Monday after handing out 32 assists against John Jay. He also posted three kills, three service aces and five digs. Timothy Kolodny (Woodland Hills, Calif.) closed out the night with 12 digs to match the team-high.
 
John Jay was led on the night by four kills each from Rasid Allah Morad and Juan Hernandez and received 13 assists from Dale Hoa. Francisco Miranda led all players in the match for the Bloodhounds with 14 digs.
 
For the match, Mount Saint Vincent finished off 39 kills to only 16 for John Jay and lifted 10 more digs with 43 on the night then the Bloodhounds. The Mount also held a 3-1 edge in total team blocks.
 
With the win, Mount Saint Vincent climbs to within a game of the .500 mark on the season at 11-12 overall. The Dolphins will look to extend their season-high winning streak on Sunday when they travel to Ramapo for a league tri-match. The Mount will take on the host Roadrunners and NYU-POLY starting at 2:00 p.m.
