Old Westbury, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team dropped a pair of road games at Old Westbury on Sunday afternoon, falling in game one 12-6 and the dropping an 11-10 extra inning heartbreaker in the backend of the set. Jason Rivera (Bronx, N.Y.) drove home two runs in the opener and Josh Sharpe (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) picked up three RBI in game two.
 
Mount Saint Vincent jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first contest on Sunday after leadoff man T.J. Laible (Rockaway, N.Y.) singled to open the game. He was pushed across later in the inning when Kevin Coogan (Bronx, N.Y.) was hit with a pitch with the bases loaded.
 
The Dolphins' lead would be short lived as Old Westbury came back with a run in the first to tie the score and then two more in the second to pull in front 3-1. The two run second was highlighted by RBI singles from Benjamin Farias and Blake Barbeito.
 
After the Panthers plated another run in the third to extend their advantage to 4-1, the Mount tried to chip away and cut its deficit to 4-2 with a run in the top of the fifth. Coogan ripped a two out triple and then was later plated on a run scoring single from Leutrim 'Tim' Hoxha (Forest Hills, N.Y.).
 
Old Westbury would keep the pressure on and pull away from the Mount with four runs each in the fifth and the sixth. The Dolphins would get three back in the eighth highlighted by a two-run single from Rivera, but could not overcome the early deficit.
 
Old Westbury finished the opener with 15 hits, including six for extra bases. Anthony Orsano went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles to go along with a run and an RBI. Brian Reutter also had a big game one after going 2-for-2 with two runs and three driven in.
 
Three Mount Saint Vincent players finished with a pair of hits in the game, including Laible who went 2-for-5 with a pair of runs. Hoxha also finished the game 2-for-5 and Mark Sargente (Commack, N.Y.) rounded out the game 2-for-4.
 
Overall in the game, Mount Saint Vincent pounded out 11 hits but stranded 14 runners on the base paths opposed to just four runners left for the Panthers.
 
Matt Calandrillo fell to 2-2 on the season after taking the loss. He worked 5.1 innings and fanned a pair of Old Westbury hitters. Chris Sanabria picked up the win after tossing 6.0 solid innings, surrendering seven hits and striking out five.
 
In game two, Mount Saint Vincent fell behind 4-0 before rallying for a run in the fifth and then exploding to take its first lead of the game with eight runs in the sixth. The Dolphins strung together six hits in the inning, including a three-run triple from Sharpe. Benjamin Toro, Jr. (Bronx, N.Y.) chipped in with a twp-run single and Rivera plated a run with a double to push the Mount in front 9-4.
 
After holding the Panthers off the board in the sixth, the Dolphins tacked on a run in the seventh on a run scoring single from Tyler Rieth (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) to push their lead to six runs with three outs left to get.
 
Trailing 10-4 and down to their final three outs, Old Westbury picked up six hits and plated six runs to tie the score in the seventh. The big blow in the inning was a two-run double with two outs to tie the score at 10-10.
 
The Dolphins would manage only one base runner in their two extra inning at-bats and saw Old Westbury complete the rally with a run in the home half of the ninth inning. John Angelino ripped a one out double and after stealing third he was pushed across on a single from Brian Walsh to end the game.
 
Old Westbury continued to swing a hot bat in game two after picking up 16 more hits, including eight more for extra bases. The contest marked the fourth straight game and the fifth in the last six that the Dolphins have allowed at least 10 runs.
 
Paul Valerio led the Old Westbury attack out of the leadoff spot by going 4-for-5 with a double and a triple to go along with two runs scored. He led six Old Westbury players who finished with at least two hits in the game.
 
Coogan, Rivera and Vinny Todino (Eastchester, N.Y.) each collected two hits for the Dolphins with Todino scoring a pair of runs. Sharpe finished with his first triple and fifth extra base hit of the season and pushed his RBI total to 14. Rivera also added to his team-high RBI total with his 22nd of the season.
 
Mike McManus (Queens, N.Y.) made the start and took a no decision after working 6.2 innings. He struck out four and allowed 13 hits. Anthony Mongelli (Flushing, N.Y.) took the loss and fell to 1-4 on the year after allowing one run on three hits in 1.2 innings of work.
 
J.C. Costa took the win for Old Westbury out of the bullpen after coming on to work the last 3.1 innings. He allowed one run on three hits and fanned three as he moved to 1-0 on the season.
 
The sweep at the hands of Old Westbury sends Mount Saint Vincent to its third straight loss and drops it below .500 overall on the season at 8-9 and to 1-3 in league play. The Dolphins will look to even their record on Tuesday night when they head to Lehman for a midweek non-conference clash with the Lightning. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
