Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Softball team was dealt a pair of losses on Wednesday, dropping a 7-0 decision to Gordon and then a 9-1 decision to Gettysburg. Sophomore
Leeann Cerbone (Bronx, N.Y.) scored the Mount's lone run of the day against the Bullets.
In the opener against Gordon, the Dolphins recorded just three hits and fell behind 1-0 in the home half of the first inning. Gordon would pick up three insurance runs in the third inning on the strength of a Liz Cheesman two-run single.
Mount Saint Vincent would receive singles in the game from
Joanna Makayan (Queens, N.Y.),
Courtney Keane (Yonkers, N.Y.) and
Blair Butler (Hicksville, N.Y.). The Dolphins also stole a pair of bases in the game with Cerbone and Keane recording the thefts.
Keane made the start for the Dolphins and took the loss. She worked 6.0 innings and allowed six earned runs on 11 hits. Claire Bennett earned the win for Gordon, fanning 10 and also going 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.
In the second game of the day, Mount Saint Vincent was toppled by Gettysburg for the second time of the week. The Dolphins fell behind early after the Bullets plated two runs in the home half of the first inning.
Mount Saint Vincent would cut its deficit in half in the bottom of the second after Cerbone led the frame off with a single. Winn would eventually drive her home with a sacrifice fly for the Dolphins' only run of the day.
After getting to within a run in the second, Mount Saint Vincent saw Gettysburg plate runs in each of its final four at-bats. The Bullets pushed two runs across in the third and three more in the fifth. The three run fifth inning was highlighted by a two-run single from Maggie McGuire.
Mount Saint Vincent collected just two base-hits in the game with Cerbone and
Kathleen Davis (Beacon, N.Y.) each singling. Davis took the loss in the circle and fell to 3-4 on the season. She worked a complete game and allowed eight earned runs on 12 hits, while striking out five.
McGuire closed out the game for Gettysburg 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI, while teammate Adrienne Rahs went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI. In all, the Bullets had five players with at least two hits in the game.
Taylor Snyder earned her second win of the week against the Dolphins after striking out five batters and not allowing an earned run. She surrendered just two hits and walked one batter in the outing.
With the losses on Wednesday, Mount Saint Vincent stands at 4-5 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be right back on the field Thursday morning when they take on Becker and Montreat starting at 9:30 a.m.
