Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team dropped its second match of the season to a nationally ranked opponent on Wednesday after a three set loss to #13 Ramapo. The Roadrunners earned the win in the Skyline Conference contest by set scores of 18-25, 15-25 and 20-25. Senior
Joe Ecock (Brooklyn, N.Y.) paced the Dolphins with eight kills.
Mount Saint Vincent took advantage of three Ramapo miscues early in the opening set and jumped out to leads of 2-0 and 3-2. Ramapo would then respond with four straight points to open a 6-3 lead. The Dolphins would battle back with a 5-1 run keyed by an Ecock kill and four Ramapo errors to jump back in front 13-12.
After the two squads traded points, the Roadrunners put the set away and jumped in front 1-0 after scoring five straight points and 10 of the final 14 of the set. Jeff Jones played a big role in the run for Ramapo with five kills.
Ramapo led from wire-to-wire in the second set and hit .308 after finishing off 13 kills. The Roadrunners scored the first three points of the set and closed the frame on an 11-3 run to ease to a 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set was the most tightly contested of the night and featured eight ties and three lead changes. After Ramapo rebounded from a 0-2 deficit in the set to jump in front 7-4, the Dolphins later rallied with a 6-1 run to tie the score at 13-13. The Mount was again the beneficiary of four Ramapo errors over that stretch.
After the Mount knotted the score at 13-13, it would be able to get even five more times in the set, but could not grab the lead back. Ramapo closed out the victory with the final four points as it moved to a perfect 7-0 in Skyline Conference play.
Ecock finished the night as the team leader with eight kills and hit .105 for the Dolphins. He also lifted six digs and recorded a block.
Chris Bacchi (Hicksville, N.Y.) recorded seven kills for the Dolphins to go along with three digs.
Brett Holiday (Stratford, N.J.) finished the night with five winners, while
James DiGiovanni (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and
Roosevelt Castillo (Bronx, N.Y.) each posted three total blocks.
Michael Sin (Hicksville, N.Y.) handed out 21 assists and lifted six digs on the night and
Timothy Kolodny (Woodland Hills, Calif.) rounded out the match with a kill and a team-high nine digs.
Ramapo finished the night hitting .269 as a team and was paced by 14 kills and a .458 hitting percentage from Jones. Neal Sundberg totaled nine kills and seven digs and Chris Sidnam put away six winners.
Harsh Prajapati led all players in the match with 23 assists with Mike Kane posting four total blocks. Mike Hrehovcik and Chris Longano each lifted six digs in the match for the Roadrunners.
Overall on the night Ramapo finished with a 42-26 advantage in kills and a 3-0 edge in service aces. The Roadrunners also lifted six more digs in the match then the Dolphins and posted a 5-4 advantage in total team blocks.
With the loss, Mount Saint Vincent stands at 4-9 overall on the season and 3-6 in league play. The Dolphins will look to rebound on Sunday when they play host to a pair of Skyline Conference opponents. The Mount will tussle with Yeshiva at 10:00 a.m. before taking on NJCU at noon.
