Dolphins Snap Three Match Losing Streak With Sweep Of Purchase

Riverdale, N.Y. – Freshman middle blocker Brett Holiday (Stratford, N.J.) posted a career-high 11 kills and senior Joe Ecock (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded a career-best six aces as the College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team got back on track with a 3-0 win over Purchase. The Dolphins took the match by scores of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-13.
 
The Dolphins struggled to pull away in the first set that featured 12 ties and six lead changes. After the Panthers pulled in front 12-10, Mount Saint Vincent strung together four straight points keyed by a kill and a pair of service aces from Ecock.
 
Purchase would rally back to within 18-17, but the Mount closed out the set with seven of the final nine points to get out to the early 1-0 lead. Chris Bacchi (Hicksville, N.Y.) sparked the run to close the set with a pair of aces.
 
Mount Saint Vincent would jump out to early leads in the second and third sets to pick up the win. The Dolphins never looked back after jumping out to a 7-2 lead in the second stanza and in the third set, the Dolphins scored the first six points and built a lead as large as 14 to close out the match.
 
Overall on the night, the Mount hit .292 as a team, including .385 in the second set. The Dolphins were led by Holiday who posted a match-high in kills and also hit a blistering .667. He also added one of the team's 11 service aces and chipped in with three total blocks.
 
Ecock continued his strong start to the season with 10 winners. He hit .278 in the match and rounded out a strong all-around evening with his career mark in aces and six digs. Bacchi closed the night with nine winners as well as five digs and a pair of aces.
 
Senior setter Michael Sin (Hicksville, N.Y.) came up four assists short of his career-high after handing out 34 against Purchase. He also lifted five digs and picked up a block. James DiGiovanni (Bay Shore, N.Y.) picked up four kills and two blocks, while Roosevelt Castillo (Bronx, N.Y.) contributed three total blocks.
 
Purchase was led by Kevon Kareem Bruce who put away eight kills to go along with five digs and three blocks. Alex Billen-Calhoun handed out 14 assists and Blake Borysewicz chipped in with four kills and an ace.
 
Overall on the night, Mount Saint Vincent finished with 36 kills to 16 for Purchase and held the edge in digs 27-18. The Dolphins also finished with 10 more service aces then the Panthers and held a 6-4 advantage in total team blocks.
 
The win improves Mount Saint Vincent's overall record to 4-8 on the season and its Skyline Conference mark to 3-5. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Wednesday when they round out a four match home stand against #14 Ramapo.
