Garden City, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer team saw its losing streak reach five games on Saturday afternoon with a 5-0 road loss at Old Westbury. Freshman netminder
Juan Alatriste (Spring Valley, N.Y.) finished the day with a career-high 14 saves for the Dolphins.
The two teams played a scoreless first half on Saturday until Old Westbury finally broke through with just over 10 minutes left before halftime. Jon Kerby took a pass from Andrew Moorman and potted the game winning tally at the 34:57 mark of the match.
Old Westbury would double it lead with 59 seconds left before the break when Moorman found Michael Mosher. Mosher buried the Panthers second goal of the game and sent the home squad to a two goal advantage after 45 minutes of play.
After the tightly contested first half, Old Westbury put the game out of reach with three more tallies in the second half. Ryan Finnin scored in the 61
st minute for the Panthers and Steven Burgos followed in the 78
th minute before Tana Weekes found the back of the net with just under two minutes left in regulation.
Alatriste made six stops in the first half for the Dolphins and then saved eight shots in the second 45 minutes on Saturday. Marcelo Guardado earned the win for the Panthers with three saves.
Overall in the game, Old Westbury outshot Mount Saint Vincent 36-7 and put 19 shots on target.
William Gutelius (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) and
Joseph Rosado (Highland Falls, N.Y.) each led the Dolphins with two shots each. The Panthers also finished the game with a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 2-6-1 overall on the season and to 0-5 in league play. The Dolphins will look to snap their skid on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Sage. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
