Cortland, N.Y. –
The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team had its five game winning streak stopped on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader loss at #20 Cortland. The Red Dragons held off the Dolphins for a 7-6 game one victory and then shutout the Mount on one hit in a 9-0 game two win. Senior James Labartino (Holbrook, N.Y.) picked up two hits and scored twice in the opener for the Dolphins.

After falling behind by a score of 7-1 after the third inning, Mount Saint Vincent put together a furious comeback over their final four at-bats that came up one run short. The Red Dragons' six run advantage was keyed by four runs in the second inning in game one. The four run frame was highlighted by a three-run home run from John Adornetto with two outs and a run already in.

The Dolphins chipped away at the lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to get to within 7-3 heading into their final at-bat. Josh Shapre (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) drove home a run in the fourth with a single and John McManus (Queens, N.Y.) plated a run an inning later with a sacrifice fly.

Trailing 7-3 heading to the seventh, the Dolphins came up with three runs and had the go ahead run in scoring position with two outs, but could not get the game even. James Labartino (Holbrook, N.Y.) was hit by a pitch to start the inning and later scored on a groundout to get the Dolphins to within two with two outs in the inning.

Kevin Coogan (Bronx, N.Y.) and Sharpe added run scoring singles in the inning, but Cortland reliever Tom Nagy earned his fourth save of the season after getting Vinny Todino (Eastchester, N.Y.) to pop up for the final out.

Sharpe and Labartino led the offensive charge for the Mount with two hits each, with Labartino scoring three runs in the opener and Sharpe driving in a pair. Sargente scored twice for the Dolphins and Fernando Suriel (Yonkers, N.Y.) finished with two RBI.

Adornetto finished game one with four RBI for the Red Dragons, while Matt June and Zack Graczyk each picked up two hits. Zachary Badanes earned the win for Cortland after throwing 4.0 innings and allowing two runs on three hits. He fanned five Dolphins in the outing. Nagy earned the save by getting just the final out of the contest.

Two Cortland pitchers combined on a one hit shutout in game two on Saturday, with Peter Lompado earning the victory. He worked 4.2 innings and allowed the only hit, while walking four and picking up one strikeout. John Molloy came on to work the final 2.2 innings for the Red Dragons, not allowing a hit or a run and striking out four.

Labartino got the only hit in the contest for Mount Saint Vincent in game two, picking up an infield single to leadoff the fourth inning. Todino was the only Mount Saint Vincent player to reach base more then once in game two, picking up two of the Mount's four walks.

Cortland got all the run support it would need when it plated four runs in the second inning. Dan Kaplan drove home two runs with a two-run home run in the inning and Adam Smith later drove in a run with a double to left.

Leading 5-0 heading to the sixth inning, the Red Dragons tacked on four more runs to close out the scoring. Half of the scoring in the inning came on walks with the bases loaded with Matt Wild and James Quinn each working back-to-back free passes to drive in runs.
