Yonkers, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Softball team continued its strong offensive performance on Thursday with an impressive sweep of City Tech. The Dolphins took the opener 23-6 and the completed the sweep with a 21-5 victory in game two. Junior Marni O'Shea (White Plains, N.Y.) had a big day for the Mount, going a perfect 7-for-7 over the two games, including four extra base hits.
Mount Saint Vincent put the game away early in the opener, plating 15 runs in its first at-bat. That would prove to be more then enough for Kelly Donlon (Carmel, N.Y.) who picked up the win in the circle. She worked 4.0 innings for the Mount and allowed just one earned run on three hits in the game. She struck out five for the Dolphins.
In game one O'Shea was one of five Mount Saint Vincent players to post multiple hits after going 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles. She also scored four times and drove in four runs for the Mount. Gabriella Burgos (Yonkers, N.Y.) also finished with three hits, going 3-for-4 with a triple. She scored three times and also finished with four RBI.
Mount Saint Vincent had six players cross with at least two runs in the game, with Nora Chivelly (Suffern, N.Y.) scoring three times. She also drove in a run and drew three walks for the Dolphins in the game.
The Dolphins continued their offensive attack in game two, plating 21 more runs on the strength of 19 hits. O'Shea again led the charge by going 4-for-4 with a pair of triples. She scored four more times and drove in four runs as the Dolphins scored at least five runs in each of their at-bats.
Leeann Cerbone (Bronx, N.Y.) and Medina Hodzic (Catskill, N.Y.) each finished game two with three hits as the Dolphins had six players with multi hit games. Chivelly finished 3-for-5 with three more runs scored.
Donlon picked up her second win of the day in game two after working the complete game. She allowed two earned runs on just two hits, while striking out seven. She also had a hit and scored a run to contribute to the win.
The pair of victories pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 4-17 overall on the season. The Dolphins will look to keep the momentum going on Saturday when they return to league play at Old Westbury. First pitch with the Panthers is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
