Farmingdale
, N.Y. After staying alive and beating top seeded St. Joseph's-L.I. in 12 innings earlier on Saturday, the College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team was eliminated from the Skyline Conference Tournament by fifth seeded Old Westbury after dropping an 8-3 decision to the Panthers. Mike Trainor (Patterson, N.Y.) worked 6.1 innings for the Dolphins, while James Labartino (Holbrook, N.Y.) led the offense with three hits.

Mount Saint Vincent got on the board first with a run in the first inning, but left runners on second and third with one out without scoring another run. Labartino doubled home Josh Sharpe (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) in the inning for the Dolphins.

Old Westbury quickly responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first to gain an advantage it would not give up. The Panthers would open up an 8-1 lead after they scored six runs over their final three at-bats. The big inning was a four run seventh that was featured only one hit. Mount Saint Vincent walked in a pair of runs and handed out five walks in the inning overall.

The Dolphins got a rally together in the ninth inning when they put together five hits. Fernando Suriel (Yonkers, N.Y.) opened the inning with a double and later scored on a Vinny Todino (Eastchester, N.Y.) single. Sharpe also drove in a run for the Dolphins in the inning but Marvin Rosario came on to record the final out with the bases loaded.

Labartino picked up his team leading 10th double as one of his three hits and drove in one of the three Mount Saint Vincent runs. His second hit of the day was the 50th of the season, setting a new single season record at Mount Saint Vincent. Todino closed out a strong two games on Saturday after going 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI against Old Westbury.

Working on just two days rest Trainor went 6.1 innings for Mount Saint Vincent and allowed five runs on nine hits. He did not strike out a batter and walked two as he fell to 5-4 on the season. Three pitchers out of the bullpen allowed three runs, only one earned, in 1.2 innings.

The top of the Old Westbury order did the bulk of the damage on Saturday, as the first four hitters combined for nine of the team's 11 hits. Joseph Guido led the charge by going 3-for-4 with two runs, while Melvin Simmons, Anthony Orsano and Josef Schaetzle each collected two hits each. Schaetzle led the team with three RBI.

After allowing a run on a hit and a walk and uncorking a pair of wild pitches in the first inning, Old Westbury starter Tyler Levine settled in to work 8.2 innings for the Panthers. He allowed three runs on nine hits while fanning a pair for the win.

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 16-23 overall on the season. Although out of the league tournament, the Dolphins will be back in action again on May 5 when they travel to USMMA-Kings Point. First pitch with the Mariners is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
