Mahwah, N.J. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball squad was edged at non-conference foe Ramapo on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 4-1. Senior infielder Vinny Todino (Eastchester, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 for the Dolphins and classmate Mike Trainor (Patterson, N.Y.) worked 6.2 innings on the hill for the Mount.
Ramapo got all the run support it would need when it broke up a scoreless game in the fifth inning with three runs. Nicholas DiGirolamo led off the frame with an infield single and later scored on a Marco Carolla single down the left field line. Carolla would later score the game winning run on a single from Kevin Knox. The Roadrunners finished the inning with four of their nine hits in the game.
After Ramapo added an insurance run in the seventh inning on a Dan Mauriello RBI single, the Dolphins finally broke through in the ninth when Todino drove home Tyler Pope (Massapequa, N.Y.) on a single to left field.
Todino was the only Mount Saint Vincent player with more then one hit in the contest and also drove in the only run of the game. Pope picked up a pinch hit single for the Dolphins and crossed with a run as the Mount was held to six singles in the contest.
Trainor work 6.2 innings on Wednesday and allowed four runs on eight base hits. He fanned a pair of Roadrunners and walked one. Rich Dionisio (West Islip, N.Y.) and Brian Rush (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) came on in relief to work 1.1 innings of scoreless ball.
James Knight picked up the win for Ramapo after going 8.1 innings and allowing just the one run on six hits. He only struck out a single batter and walked five in the outing. Knight also hit three Dolphins in the contest but was not hurt by the free passes. Daniel LaRocca earned the save by getting the final two outs of the game.
