Danbury, Conn. Senior James Labartino (Holbrook, N.Y.) recorded his 147th career hit on Sunday against Western Connecticut setting the all-time mark at Mount Saint Vincent, but the Dolphins were edged by the Colonials 10-7. Christian Lavery (Westbury, N.Y.) led the Dolphins with three hits in the game and Fernando Suriel (Yonkers, N.Y.) homered in his third straight contest.

Mount Saint Vincent jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning after and RBI single from Mike Pope (Massapequa, N.Y.) and a two-run blast from Suriel with two outs in the inning.

 
Western Connecticut responded in the second inning with four runs to jump in front 4-3 early on. Tim Nelson picked up a run scoring triple in the inning and Jeff John drove in a run with a double for the Colonials.

 
Mount Saint Vincent battled back to tie the score in the after a sacrifice fly from Pope, before Western Connecticut went on to score in four of its final six at bats. Western Connecticut used two runs in the fifth and two in the eighth to open a lead it would not relinquish.

 
Labartino finished the game 2-for-4 with a double for the Dolphins to go along with a run scored and an RBI. Pope and Suriel also each finished with a pair of hits with each also driving in two runs. Pope also scored twice for Mount Saint Vincent.

 
Labartino passed Joe Blackford who set the career mark hits last season against NYU-POLY on April 18. Through 33 games this season he has 43 safeties which ranks as the sixth best single season in program history. Labartino stands just six hits shy of the single season record.

 
Lavery finished the contest 3-for-4 with a run scored on the day and Josh Sharpe (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) went 1-for- 2 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI.  

 
Chris Alberto led the Western Connecticut offensive attack after going 5-for-6 with a run and two RBI. Overall the Colonials had six players finish with two hits with Nelson and John each driving in a pair of runs.

 
Western Connecticut finished the game with eight extra base hits with John recording a pair of doubles. John was also one of four players to score two runs for the Colonials in the win.

 
James Puma (Valhalla, N.Y.) suffered the loss on Sunday after allowing six earned runs in 4.2 innings of work. He struck out two and walked a pair in the outing. Justin Schultz picked up the win after working 5.0 innings and allowing four runs. Bobby Coyne earned the save with 4.0 innings of relief work.

 
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 14-19 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Wednesday when they travel to Ramapo for a non-conference contest with the Roadrunners. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m.
