, N.Y. - After winning three straight games, the College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Lacrosse team was handed its second straight league loss on Wednesday night with a 21-6 defeat at the hands of Maritime. Mike Shea (Congers, N.Y.) scored three times, while Rowan Frederick (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added a goal and an assist.

 

Shea opened the scoring for the Dolphins with his 19th goal of the season at the 13:37 mark of the first period to give the Mount an early one goal edge. From there Maritime scored 14 unanswered goals, until Cavan Valance (Glen Cove, N.Y.) broke the string for the Dolphins with his 12th of the season at 8:14 of the third quarter.

 

Maritime had a balanced scoring attack in the game that featured 10 different goal scorers and four players with multiple goals. Alexander Korb led the charge with five goals, while Matthew Messina scored four and added an assist for five points. In all the Privateers had 12 players with a point, including Seth Collins who posted a game-high three assists to go along with a goal.

 

Shea was the only player with more then one goal for the Dolphins, with Valance, Frederick and Matt DeSimone (Congers, N.Y.) adding the other tallies. John Petito (Staten Island, N.Y.) joined Frederick with the only other helper on the night.

 

For the game Maritime held the edge in every team category. The Privateers outshot the Dolphins 52-24 and also had the better of groundballs at 49-37. Larry Caputo (Hicksville, N.Y.) led the Mount with six groundballs in the game and Petito picked up five.  

 

Maritime dominated the face-ff category as well, going 18-for-26 in the game. Ryan Honey won eight for Maritime, while Petito and Derek Wilson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) paced the Mount with three wins each.

 

Mount Saint Vincent freshman Kyle Kalibat (Oceanside, N.Y.) took the loss between the pipes for the Dolphins after making 13 saves in just over 40 minutes of work. Maritime starter Keith Messina made a pair of saves in earning the win.

 

The Privateers also did damage with man-up opportunities on Wednesday, going 7-for-16 overall on the night. Overall on the season, Mount Saint Vincent has allowed opponents to convert on nearly 31-percent of their chances with the extra man.

 

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 3-4 overall on the season and to 0-2 in league play. The Dolphins will be back in action again this weekend for a pair of non-conference games in Boston. The trip opens on Saturday at Emerson at 1:00 p.m.
