Purchase, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team split a pair of Skyline Conference matches on Saturday afternoon, beating rival Bard 3-2 by scores of 18-25, 27-25, 26-28, 26-24 and 15-11 and then falling to Sage 3-0 by scores of 22-25, 21-25 and 21-25. Senior David Guerrero (East Meadow, N.Y.) totaled 26 kills in the win, while Chris Bacchi (Hicksville, N.Y.) added 19 for the Dolphins.

 

Mount Saint Vincent avenged a 3-2 road loss to Bard earlier in the week on Saturday after hitting .243 as a team. Guerrero led all players in the match with his 26 winners and hit .322 after committing just seven attack errors in 59 attempts. Guerrero rounded out a double-double effort with 13 digs to go along with three service aces.

 

Bacchi also had an efficient match for the Dolphins after committing just five errors in 43 attacks on his way to 19 kills and a team-high .326 hitting percentage. He also lifted six digs for the Dolphins in the win. After Saturday's output, Bacchi ranks second on the team in kills and third in hitting percentage this season.

 

Michael Quinn (Wantagh, N.Y.) handed out 50 assists in the match and added seven digs. He rounded out a strong contest with three kills and three total blocks. Michael Sin (Hicksville, N.Y.) added 10 digs in the win and Joe Ecock (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Mount with five total blocks.

 

Bard was led by 24 kills and 11 digs from Nick Chan and also received 13 kills and a .522 hitting percentage from Elijah Strauss. Andrew Cortrite led all players with 15 digs and Henry Kasiske posted match-high 53 assists.

 

Overall in the match each team finished with 58 kills, with Bard lifting 60 digs to 52 for Mount Saint Vincent. Bard also held the edge in total team blocks 13-8, with Ryan Fallon leading the way with seven for the Raptors.

 

Looking for the sweep in the second match for the day, the Dolphins were handed their second league loss of the season and third overall in their last four matches by Sage. The Gators were led in the contest by Spencer Hilland who totaled match-high 20 kills and an impressive .395 hitting percentage. The rest of the squad would combine for just 19 more kills, with Ryan Wilkins recording nine of those.

 

Guerrero and Bacchi each continued their strong day against the Gators as each posted 17 kills for the Dolphins. The duo combined for 34 of the team's 40 winners with Quinn and Ecock each posting three for the Mount. Bacchi hit .485 in the match and also lifted nine digs and assisted on five blocks.

Quinn finished the day with 83 total assists after handing out 33 helpers against the Gators. He also lifted five digs for the Dolphins and assisted on a block. Guerrero totaled the Dolphins' only service ace of the contest.

 

For the match, Mount Saint Vincent posted 40 kills to 39 for Sage and also held the edge in digs 42-29. Mount Saint Vincent also totaled 8.5 total team blocks in the match to 3.5 for the Gators.

 

The split on Saturday moves Mount Saint Vincent to 13-5 overall and to 7-2 in Skyline play heading into the home stretch of the season. The Dolphins will be back in action again after Spring Break when they host Medgar Evers on March 21. The match with the Cougars is set for 7:30 p.m.
