After winning a season-high seven matches in a row, the College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team has dropped back-to-back matches for the first time this season after a 3-2 loss at Lehman on Thursday night. The Lightning, who posted their second five set win of the season against the Dolphins, won the match by scores of 25-20, 19-25, 21-25, 25-22 and 15-13. Four Mount Saint Vincent players recorded double-doubles in the match with Chris Bacchi (Hicksville, N.Y.) leading the team with 16 kills.

 

After dropping the opening set and hitting just .111 as a team, Mount Saint Vincent rebounded to hit .346 in the second set to even the match at 1-1. The Dolphins did not trail in the set and carried that momentum into the third to take a 2-1 lead. Mount Saint Vincent trailed by as many as six points in the third set, but closed on a 10-2 run to take the lead in the match.

 

Lehman came back in the fourth set to even the match after totaling 13 kills. After the score was tied at 17-17, the Lightning ripped off the next five points to take a 22-17 lead. The Dolphins would get to within 24-22, but a bad set by the Mount would allow Lehman to square the match.

 

The fifth set was a back and forth affair that featured seven ties. Neither team led by more then three points in the set and after Mount Saint Vincent ran off three straight points to tie the score at 13-13, the Lightning took advantage of two Dolphin attack errors to secure the win.

 

Bacchi paced three Mount Saint Vincent players in double-figures in kills with 16 and was also one of four with a double-double after lifting 16 digs. Bacchi also recorded a pair of blocks in the match. David Guerrero (East Meadow, N.Y.) also posted a double-double for the Dolphins with 15 winners and 20 digs.

 

Junior Joe Ecock (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded at least 10 kills in a match for the third time in the last four matches with 11 winners and a .407 hitting percentage. Ecock also lifted 10 digs and totaled a pair of blocks.

 

Michael Quinn (Wantagh, N.Y.) also finished with a double-double effort on Thursday after handing out 41 assists and lifting 10 digs. All six players that appeared in the match for the Mount had at least 10 digs, with Mark Sargente (Commack, N.Y.) lifting 10 and Michael Sin (Hicksville, N.Y.) leading all players with 22.

 

Lehman was led on the night by 17 kills from R.J. LeBlanc who also finished with 11 digs. Manuel Bonilla finished the night with 14 kills and a team-high 19 digs, while Nate Nate Martin totaled 16 kills and 13 digs. Miguel Gallardo led all players with 44 assists in the match.

 

Overall on the night, Lehman finished with 54 kills to 48 for the Mount, while the Dolphins held the edge in digs 88-79. Lehman finished the match with 7.0 total team blocks to 4.0 for Mount Saint Vincent.

 

The non-conference loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 12-4 overall on the season. The Dolphins will return to Skyline Conference action on Saturday when they take on Sage and Bard in neutral site matches at Purchase. The Bard match is set for 12:00 p.m., with the Sage contest slated for 2:00 p.m.
