Dolphins Suffer First Loss Of The Season At CCNY

, N.Y. The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team was defeated for the first time in 2011 on Thursday night after falling at the City College of New York 3-1. The Beavers took the match over the Dolphins by set scores of 20-25, 25-19, 16-25 and 16-25. Senior David Guerrero (East Meadow, N.Y.) led the offensive attack for the Mount with 14 kills.

 

Guerrero was the lone Dolphin to finish in double-figures in the kill category with his 14. He also chipped in with five defensive digs on the night and added three of Mount Saint Vincent's seven service aces in the contest.

 

Junior Chris Bacchi (Hicksville, N.Y.) continued his steady play for Mount Saint Vincent in the contest after posting eight kills to go along with five digs and a pair of aces. Classmate Michael Sin (Hicksville, N.Y.) added seven winners for the Mount and lifted six digs in the match.

 

Michael Quinn (Wantagh, N.Y.) added four kills and hit an even .500 overall for Mount Saint Vincent in the match and also handed out a match-high 20 assists. Quinn also recorded a team-high two total blocks on Thursday.

 

CCNY (1-8) was led on the night by Matthew Ng who posted 15 kills against just two attack errors to go along with seven digs. Nicholas Siriban added 10 kills for the Beavers, while Xihe Xie led the way with 17 assists.

 

For the match, CCNY hit .292 as a team compared to .132 for the Dolphins and totaled 43 kills to 40 for the Mount. The Beavers also finished the night with seven total team blocks to three for Mount Saint Vincent.

 

Thursday's loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 3-1 overall on the season. After an off day on Friday, the Dolphins will look to get back into the win column on Saturday when they travel to Skyline rival NYU-POLY. The match with the Blue Jays is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
