Mark Sargente registered double-figures kills in a match for the second time this season on Thursday

Purchase, N.Y. – After dropping a five set heartbreaker last Friday in its home opener against Lehman, the College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball squad rebounded for a 3-0 sweep at Skyline rival Purchase Thursday night. The Dolphins secured the win by set scores of 25-8, 25-8 and 25-18 after hitting .421 as a unit. Senior David Guerrero (East Meadow, N.Y.) and junior Mark Sargente (Hauppauge, N.Y.) led the offensive attack for the Mount with 10 kills each.
Sargente hit an impressive .571 for the Dolphins on Thursday night after finishing off 10 kills and committing just a pair of attack errors. He also chipped in with a pair of digs for the Mount. Sargente has now posted at least 10 kills in a match twice in his first season with the squad.
Guerrero continued his steady play for Mount Saint Vincent with 10 more kills and a .368 attack percentage. He rounded out a strong night with seven digs and a pair of service aces. The 5-9 outside hitter has now posted at least 10 kills in a match in each contest he has appeared in and is good for 4.38 winners per set for the Dolphins.
Senior Michael Quinn (Wantagh, N.Y.) led all players in the match with 21 assists and also added four digs and a kill. Junior Michael Sin (Hicksville, N.Y.) led the Dolphins with eight digs in the match, while classmate Chris Bacchi (Hicksville, N.Y.) led the way with three aces.
Purchase was paced in the contest by Kareem Kevon Bruce who totaled nine kills for the Panthers. Bruno Estrada led the way with 14 assists and Thomas DeCarlo and Quentin Vidal each lifted a pair of digs apiece.
Overall in the match, Mount Saint Vincent committed just seven attack errors on its way to hitting a season-high .421. The Dolphins lifted 29 digs in the match to five for Purchase, while the Panthers led the way with 4.5 total team blocks.
The win improves Mount Saint Vincent to 6-2 overall on the season and to 3-0 against Skyline Conference opponents. The Dolphins will be back in action on Saturday for a pair of league matches at Sage. The Mount will tussle with the host Gators at 12:00 p.m. before taking on Bard at 2:00 p.m. in Troy, N.Y.
