New York, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team won its second straight match on Wednesday night with a 3-0 sweep of Skyline Conference rival Yeshiva. The Dolphins overtook the Maccabees by set scores of 28-25, 25-11 and 25-14. Senior outside hitter David Guerrero (East Meadow, N.Y.) led the offensive attack with 13 kills.
Guerrero has now recorded at least 12 kills in all five matches he has played in this season with his 13 winners on Wednesday and leads the team with 65 kills on the season. He rounded out a strong all-around match for the Dolphins with a team-high six service aces and seven defensive digs.
Junior Chris Bacchi (Hicksville, N.Y.) chipped in with five kills for the Dolphins and Mark Sargente (Hauppauge, N.Y.) posted three winners for the Mount. Bacchi added nine digs to the winning effort and Sargente chipped in with four digs, three aces and a block assist.
Senior setter Michael Quinn (Wantagh, N.Y.) led Mount Saint Vincent with 20 assists in the match to go along with a dig, a total block and a pair of kills. Michael Sin (Hicksville, N.Y.) lifted eight digs for the Mount on the night.
Overall in the match, Mount Saint Vincent finished off 26 kills and totaled 10 service aces. The Dolphins also lifted 35 digs as a team and they won their fifth match in six tries to open the 2011 season.
The win on Wednesday pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 5-1 overall on the season and to 2-0 against Skyline Conference opponents. The Dolphins will look to continue their momentum on Friday when they open the home portion of their schedule against Lehman. The match with the Lightning is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
