Southern Vermont Finals Stats
Bennington, Vt. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team ran its winning streak to three matches to open the season with a pair of non-conference wins at Southern Vermont Saturday afternoon. The Dolphins dispatched Lesley University 3-0 by set scores of 25-11, 25-23 and 25-23 and then downed the host Mountaineers by scores of 25-16, 25-22 and 25-9. Senior David Guerrero (East Meadow, N.Y.) led the Dolphins with 12 kills in each contest.
In the opener against Lesley, Guerrero collected his 12 winners and hit .146 to go along with a match-high five service aces. He also lifted five digs and posted a solo block in the win. Junior Chris Bacchi (Hicksville, N.Y.) also had a strong contest after posting nine kills and hitting .318 for the Dolphins. He nearly missed a double-double after lifting 13 digs and adding three aces.
Michael Sin (Hicksville, N.Y.) led all players in the match with 23 digs to go along with four kills and two total blocks. Michael Quinn (Wantagh, N.Y.) also posted a match-high with 29 assists and also finished with nine digs and three kills. Mark Sargente (Hauppauge, N.Y.) also had a strong day with seven kills, six digs and four total blocks for the Dolphins.
Overall in the match, Mount Saint Vincent hit .186 as a team and posted 38 kills to just 19 for Lesley. The Dolphins also held a big edge in digs at 64-49 and each team posted six total team blocks.
Against Southern Vermont the Dolphins hit a blistering .305 as a squad and were again led by 12 kills from Guerrero who finished with a .357 hitting percentage. He also collected eight digs, two aces and a pair of total blocks.
Bacchi also closed out a 20 kill afternoon with 11 winners against the Mountaineers and a .400 hitting percentage. He also chipped in with seven digs for Mount Saint Vincent. Sargente rounded out a strong all around day with seven more kills and a match-high 14 digs.
Quinn continued his strong early season play on Saturday with a match-high 33 assists and three digs. He has now handed out 95 assists in the first three matches this season and is averaging 8.64 helpers per set for the Dolphins.
The sweep on Saturday pushes Mount Saint Vincent to a perfect 3-0 overall on the season. The Dolphins will stay on the road for their next match when they travel to CCNY on February 3. The match with the Beavers is slated for 7:00 p.m.
